Hurricane & Typhoon...

Post by JayW »

After some enquiries and interest both on the forums and at Stratford i've dug out some old pics of my slightly rarer models for those interested...

The Petrol GTi Hurricane (now deceased):

And the rarest of them all, the GTi Typhoon (an "end of line" parts-bin special):

Hurricane and Typhoon.

Post by bx petrol auto saloon »

Dear Jay W.
Nice photo,s of those two beauties, I didn,t know those models existed.
The Typhoon looks pretty mean on those wheels.
I am fingers crossed getting my first BX on this Saturday, she is a real
stunner in white, a 1992 1.6 8 valve TXi single-point injection auto, with
47,000 miles from new. with one of those lovely large boot spoilers. I
am going to show her at my local C.C.C events and my local car shows
before autumn sets in, and take her to Bromley Pageant next year.
What Citroen,s have you had Jay, and what Citroen,s do you have
now ?
All the best
Vince.
Passion Hydropneumatic Citroen,s

Other than the 4" exhaust (which lets face it many GTi's have similar), what exactly do you find chavvy about colour coded wheels and sill extensions??? (considering what the 16V has attached to it)

Is that from the "i've never seen one so it can't be real" school of thought?

The typhoon was sold via ebay several years ago to a chap in Belgium who came all the way over with a box trailer attached to his range rover to collect it. He was certainly very excited about it and insisted on checking the VIN and RP numbers before he bid on it.

In fairness to both of you, the Typhoon never appeared in any literature that I'm aware of and it isn't unknown for dealerships to have been sent 'tart-up kits' - forget the correct term! ) to help boost end-of-line models.

That's not to say Citroen didn't create the Typhoon, but I strongly doubt it would have come over from Rennes like that. If it was a UK-only special edition we might have seen one around before now. If it was a very rare, pan-European special edition, I wonder what it was called in France?

But on a subjective level, I think it's not bad looking, although why the centre caps are not green too is odd.

Just my opinion  , been selling motors for 20 years, seen plenty of dealer specials (normally last of line or over age stock, which this is a VERY late car), the Jeep dealer I worked for had its own line of specials with locally made graphics, side steps, flaps and window tints., did the trick though! Also when I was at MG Rover we had a fair few, didnt stop them going bang though!.

Ive done a hpi check on the car and there is no mention of the typhoon monica, so I imagine it started life as a stock GTi in Triton Green with option alloys and the stickers/skirts were added.

Wonder if its still around somewhere?

Previous owner had stuck "Citroen" badges on them, they are just faded in the pictures...

Factory or not, i got just under £1800 for it in 2004 so, well, i wasn't complaining and neither was the buyer!

If it does still exist it's not in the UK. as far as i know it's still probably in my name as I gave over all the paperwork and didn't bother "exporting" it.

Bingo! I'm delighted that car exists - it's just 'out there'! I'm sure i remember seeing one on a BX site years ago but no mention of it anywhere now. I knew the gti Hurricane existed as it's listed in the Hurricane brochure (but not illustrated). A real shame there's none left now.

I hope you get as much pleasure from your new car as you anticipate Vince. I'm sure you will - it sounds lovely. :D

It's not the only typhoon I've seen. Nearly bought one in 2003, then got the black P2 instead.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...
