1990 BX 4X4 Gti for sale:

Post by PeterWales »

Spares or repair. Something different. 4 wheel drive, hydraulic suspension and a 1905 cc Gti that will do about 30 mpg. Believed one of very few left in country. Needs new clutch and front suspension leg (available). Most hydraulic lines replaced. Body looks good for year but 2 or 3 small body holes underneath. Paint red but faded needs TLC. SORNED no MOT - hasn't been run for last few years apart from occasionally starting engine. £400 to good home. Can send pic. Reluctant to scrap - transmission and engine all work. 01267 290335. In West Wales.

Hi Peter
Thanks for posting it on here hopefully somebody will want to save it, unfortunately needing a clutch in the 4x4 means a complete engine transmission removal but no doubt someone on here will want to have a go. Good luck with the sale.

I really shouldn't ask, but where in West Wales are you? I'm in Blaenau Ffestiniog so if not too far could look over it for other members (and try not to buy it for myself!)

With the work needed, I have to point out that (on the basis of similar cars sold) you will be lucky to get £400, especially when you factor in the likely cost of collection. Sadly, I would suggest £250 tops is more realistic, which is little more than scrap value. :(

So do I but I didn't have the heart to say it. Any BX without MOT is only scrap value i'm afraid with the exception of a 4x4 which would be worth slightly more without MOT if not needing a clutch.

Just noticed the 01267 phone code - Carmarthen is a bit of a trek from up here!

Hi Peter

How do you know the clucth is shot? I bought a BX 19TZD 3 weeks ago with a suspected worn out clutch which was down to a poorly adjusted cable.

Yes interesting Q. The car does still drive but clutch started slipping after I towed a terribly overloaded trailer. How easy it is to overload without realising. The BX got it home - just. Local mechanic checked out pedal adjustment. I don't think he could adjust it any more.

Oh dear yes sounds like its had it if its slipping, its normally the other end of the scale (when you cant get it in gear easily) which lends itself to cable adjustment.

Quite a project for someone. Not sure I've got the funds/equipment sadly. Has it been stored indoors?

BX GTi 4X4

No not stored indoors I'm afraid - did not have garage for it. Available at scrap price to someone who intends to restore or keep another going. Already have 3 other cars (one too many - anyone want to buy a Hyundai Sonata V6 auto?!) and wife only wants to drive an auto so regrettably I don't think I can repair it up now myself.

BX 4x4 Hatch still sought!

Post by IOWBX »

Hello - I may be interested, however red is my least favoured colour :( and I did want a rust free shell ideally. Please send me some pics via my website.

I have money available for the right car so any others out there? Been looking for a while. Where did that J reg silver one get to?

Sold my BX14 some time ago so BX less at present. A ZX has stood in for now.

thanks defender. I think I offered to buy that one once before but someone had first dibs. I think I have raised my sights slightly now and want something that requires a little less time - there must be something out there.... however. I have also followed that one up too. cheers
