Post by kiwi »

What can I say other than now have a BX19TXD to add to the collection ex UK 1992 import that spent 3 years in the UK before being owned by its previous owner for 15 years.
Speedometer in Miles and yep is a nice drive well the 325km drive back from its place of pick up wasfun 8) Like the Fuel Gauge has not moved since I filled it up before setting off 8)

So now I am a BX diesel convert

Not so fast with that judgement sunshine

Differant goverment here and the drawbacks to Diesel until now for me was due to a couple of goverment taxes. Noteably the cost of the Annual Tax fee being nearly double because of some levy by yet another goverment departmant that relates to injuries (you cant sue people for accidents in this country)
Coupled with the Tax is not at the pump for diesel but a cahrg on the distance you cover in advance and it worked out just as expensive.

But now I have a way to get the running costs down through my occupation so it works out ok now

As soon as I remeber my piccie account password  Actually I might try to stage a photo with all 3 BXs in

It has a few blemishes to sort out before I start using it as a "reliable" to my standards.
Two important things to get done is the Clutch adjustment and change the Cambelt. Apparently it has been 80,000km since being done so may well be due.

And could diesel is for losers who like paying through the nose for a fuel that is a by-product of making petrol.

In other words, it costs money to make petrol, but it doesn\'t cost much to make diesel, yet you\'re paying more a litre.

Then theres the issue of which is more fun to drive. I don\'t need to go into that one, but you can\'t put a price on happyness!

I\'m neutral because I\'ve got a petrol and a diesel car (Picasso HDI funnily enough).

I have both petrol and diesel vehicles, including one of each in BXs.

I have never thought that petrol was for losers, particularly as a lot of the latest model cars will do far more per mpg than my diesel BX will ever do.
So in my book thats a fatuous remark.

As others have said, diesel is more expensive and yet you go further. Stick it in an L200 and gun it as i do it will only give me 25mpg. My Mazda in its 140bhp form goes like shit off a shovel with petrol and is a pleasure to drive, much better than the diesel versions.
Horses for courses in my book.

You are saying that BX GTIs and all the petrol variants aint so hot cos you have to pay the tax man a lot of duty? Paying more in diesel ime sure.

Ime glad Kiwi has found the diesel BX so economical, and once wound up will cruise well at 80 mph. They are great cars, diesel or otherwise.

Had my rant.

Ah-hem. BX14 = 45mpg on 95 unleaded at £1.33 a litre and 130 quid a year for road tax. How is that being a loser?

So's mine. V6 1.8i, 24 valves and a great howl when you put your foot to the floor. If you manage to take your eyes off the road for long enough, you can actually see the fuel guage needle falling, but it doesn't matter in the slightest when you add up the smiles per mile.

Anyways this BX Diesel is an ex UK car and I got some more info for you all.

Its from Swindon previous reg K744SDF 28.8.92 then ended up in Nz less than 3 years later. If only cars could speak it probably would be able to tell me how in its younger days it enjoyed Motorways

Kind weird and nostalgic to have a car with MPH and read a service History and receipts from the UK. It gets weirder when I found a fuel receipt in the paperwork for a Diesel purchase where the date stamp was from the few months I worked at the place on the receipt when it first came to NZ.

That saying of a small world! Ah huh it most certainly is.

By definition the BX Club is a broad church and tolerance is therefore a very necessary virtue. For the record, I wasn't the one who said petrol is for losers and I haven't disrespected anyone with a penchant for diesel cars. Long may your cars run between fill-ups and great that your engines are bullet proof. I just prefer my cars with petrol engines.

It's a rather slippery slope to assume that anyone who likes to drive a fast car must de facto be an idiot with small appendage. Apart from upsetting all the GTi owners here, it smacks of prejudice.

Sheesh give me a chance only had the car 36 hours (at time of writing  ) In that time driven it 325kms from the previous owners got back after dark and today was working/sking for the day

Any ways condition wise good but not perfect! Has a couple of bodywork blemishes interior pretty much you could call mint. Mileage and I do say Mileage is 178,000  and yet again it is white.

I am not happy with the clutch pedal operation at the moment seems an adjustment is needed however there is a weld repair to cluth arm (forget the techinical term for it) at the gearbox. I got a spare from the BX16 gearbox sat in the shed. Rev counter was not working but seems I must have shaken something in the drive thats now working and theres a problem with the wash/intermediate wiper. Other than that not much else wrong for a car of its age and mileage. At worse I have or can swap the door panels from the 19TRS on to it.

Oh and the cambelt is apparently overdue apprently 80,000kms done on it although for piece of mind I may get that done anyways.
