Before you all get your pitchforks out and go marching off to Wigan, knowing Phil, that 'loser' comment was tongue in cheek.
Diesel engines don't really float my boat, but I enjoy motoring more than my feelings for the particular fuel used, so if diesel enables me to do more driving for the same money then that's a plus. The ideal for me would be a spark ignition engine, designed from the outset to run efficiently on (cheap) gas, but that's opening up another can of worms...

Lighten up Des any remarks about petrol cars were purely jokular as i'm sure Philhods were, I think we may have a North/South humour divide here aswell as petrol/diesel. Personaly I don't give 2 hoots which car/fuel others get their satisfaction from as long as i'm happy with my choice for me.
P.S. If you do decide the invasion rouute tha gets a nice pie in Wigan tha know's!

The only invasion route I know is the one my forebears used across the sea to the Fens. They arrived with funny pointy hats, buckets and spades (ok then, axes) and an interesting chat-up line for the local girls.
As for Wigan, I don't know owt about pies but I do know it's got a pier. I read it in a book.
Is there any mileage in this North loves diesel, South loves petrol idea? Is it sheer coincidence I rescued my St Tropez from a bloke who lived in Darwen...
Anyway, on topic, where are these pictures??

Ive got two diesels and three petrols, fors and against with both.
Diesel, frugal, longlived and simple, but a bit slow in non turbo form.
Petrol, better performance, much quieter and a wider range of engine options.
I drove the 16TRS, 19TZD and 19TZI last night as I did a car shuffle as im getting ready for winter hibernation and found the TZI with its gutsy torquey engine and smoooooth autobox a really nice way to move around, but at 30mpg I would use the TZD for a long journey! .
tax is the same as is the insurance and parts so I guess its down to how many miles you do and what you prefer!

Actually it hasn't, the pier was demolished in 1929 althought the area it was in is still generally known as Wigan Pier and there was /is a club named Wigan Pier.Des Smith wrote: As for Wigan, I do know it's got a pier. I read it in a book.

This one has not got a Turbo it is a TXD but the turbo was removed apparently. First impression though count and on the long drive back and some the hills it did give the TZS a good run for its money however saying that I did not do many passing runs other than a HGV going at 30kph up a steep hill which was only a 50kph limit. But hitting the 100kph further up the hill its pull away was impressive. I kind forgot it was a dieselRoverman wrote:Ive got two diesels and three petrols, fors and against with both.

Oddly, my only BX-perience is either 1.9 diesels or the 16v. Talk about extremes! Only way to top it would be to try a 1.7NA diesel and a BX 4TC.
16v is insane fun, but tiring when you're not in the mood (which I found wasn't very often to be fair...). NA diesel doesn't have much, but pretty much all it has is to be found most of the way through the rev range.

... ive found the same, the power is perfectly fine for everyday driving, but it aint goona light any fires. As you say though what torque and acceleration there is, is there pretty much at any speed/revs.Dollywobbler wrote:Oddly, NA diesel doesn't have much, but pretty much all it has is to be found most of the way through the rev range.

Hey Kiwi! It was Kev that started up the North/South discussion, not me! Since you want to make distinctions on a global scale, I'm happy to acknowledge your Southern-ness. You can see the Southern Cross and the Aurora Australis and you can almost smell Antarctica! It also means up here on the top of the planet, we are all Northerners, by 'eck!kiwi wrote:before you rant anymoe about the North and the South!
I shall avoid suggesting it's grim up here...
Anyway, on thread, WHERE are your photos! We're only indulging in idle chatter while we wait for you to get your camera out and snap this oilburner...

Still no photos uploaded yet but I did notice that Mulley has a 19TXD as well and guess what it is white! Just like all my other BXs...starting to be convinced that 95% of BXs sold in NZ was in white.
Which now means I better do a blog...lol
