Should I or not??

Post by christhelion »

I promised myself i wouldn't do this but I've been looking around this forum a lot lately and I'm getting a bit tempted by a diesel...
I need a car at least through winter and, well, ultimately longer.
I borrowed a 406 diesel the other week and enjoyed the less frantic way of getting around compared to the bike and I know that's not as comfy as a BX.
Should I look for one? My girlfriend would have to agree to it and i'm not sure she would since she remembers the 4x4 and some of the funds would come from her as she'd be driving it too..

but should I hunt?

I think I'm asking the wrong people.

Warmonger! :)

A diesel BX should be a hell of a lot more reliable / frugal than your 4x4 BX and you shouldn't need to open your wallet anywhere near as often for repairs. If you go for a Turbo you shouldn't find anything you would be unhappy with, you may find the N/A too sluggish / noisy. I find them both brilliant cars but am not a speed lover. TGD Auto's are great for keeping your driving licence clean
P.S. My misses loves the TZD thinks it is a wonderfull comfortable & powerfull car but hates the TGD N/A.

After the Ninja pretty much every car will feel slow, so it probably doesn't matter which diesel!

There's no harm in looking, and if you take her out for a test drive too, she might be convinced...

And yes, you are asking the wrong people. Trying not to be biased, if it's just a winter hack car you want then there is a lot of choice in terms of bangers out there, but if you want one that you like as well, then get a BX!

I love my 19TGD..
used everyday been through floods too. Had it 8 plus years from 27,000. only now 90,000 'other than basic servicing, oils, brakes, 2 cambelt relplacements and one water pump' all preventative jobs no failures' haven't I spent any money on it.
Just put a clutch, ball joints, anti roll bar bushes, link rods and driveshafts 'the NEW bargain shafts were a little more than the boots' so I grabbed them.

The clutch had become heavy and all the other stuff was done because the parts were available and I was in there :) the cv boots were showing signs of age.

You can live with the power issue, I ride a ZX12R 182hp @the rear wheel ;) and a GL1500 or my K75 (the Bandit is my wife's) or the CX if I really want to go fast :)
The BX is fantastic day to day

I'm quite a fan of the 12R. I've not ridden one but like the look and the idea. They've gotta be more fun than that ZZR1400 my dad rides. What's the point in being a fast bike with 199bhp at the crank and feeling slower than my 9? The speedo says it's not but it leaves you thinking "I feel like I'm in a BMW 7 series"

Anyway, yeah. I'm gonna ask the girlfriend now... your pictures may help :)

When I was 16 I always wanted an RS50. Waited till I was 17 and bought a Yamaha RXS100. It was a commuter thing that was strangely capable of 75mph ish. It could have an XR2 to about 35 then thy'd sail past but by then the damage was done. It did around 60 to the gallon and it taught me what a bike wallowing in the corners felt like. At 60mph round a long bend on a country road you felt like Rossi at 160 because the bike would be protesting all the time. I know of it's whereabouts and it's a shadow of its former self but I MAY one day go get it off the guy that has it leant against his garage.
my plan was RS50, DT125R (don't know why because I've always liked sportsbikes), NC30 VFR400, CBR600, ZX9R/R1. That's what I expected the progression to be.
instead it was RXS100, VW polo, Ford Sierra, Vauxhall Astra, Ford Transit, BX GTi 4x4, borrowed Honda VF750F for 3 months, ZX-9R B1, ZX-9R E1.

Certainly got the BX bug now though. I just want a nice riding car and I've not been in anything like a BX for that. My 4x4 wasn't a prime example with 16v spheres on but Richards "Red Shed" and our old family 17RD didn't even feel like they were touching the floor. Especially if you're used to getting pummelled by modern cars with low profile tyres on.
After big bikes I'm not into going fast in cars so I just want something comfy and economical

:) I'd get one yes.

I used to have a TZD before this one, two 1.4's before that (one of those had the visa engine) a 1.6 before that and still got my Dad's GTI It's not driven in 10 years.
