I am having such bad withdrawals from TZDs

Post by Oscar »

Real white knuckle stuff at the moment. That charisma-free, gutless, thirsty lump of *meh* silver ZX is pissing me off, and I come on here and people are all "TZD this" and "TZD that" and I want one really badly.

Someone please give me a TZD for nothing so that SWMBO can't object. Please....

You\'re always going to hanker after a BX when you\'re driving a ZX around mate, I can\'t see how you ever though otherwise!

Dear Oscar.
So what does SWMBO mean then ? so why don,t you try putting ads
in the Wanted section for a BX, if you word the ad letting people know
what it is you like, and put about the financial restrictions you may or
may not have, and be perfectly honest and upfront that you are looking
for something for free. Then hopefully one may come along, and then
you can try to do the hard bit of trying to sell your other car ?
I hope this helps, I am not looking to offend anyone, we all have our
dreams. I dreamt years ago about owning a SAAB 99 until someone
gave me one, allbeit it was a bit of a shed, but I did it up and PX,d it
for another one, 30 years later and I am on SAAB no.7 now and I
have had this one for 12 years now.
If you don,t ask you won,t get one, it only takes one kind soul, to
make somebody really happy.
Good luck.
Vince.

I think it might stand for 'She Who Must Be Obeyed'. It's a post-feminist euphemism for 'er indoors'. :D

Vince; Oscar is a long time member/contributor who is just venting off his frustrations at being BX less to get rid of his addiction. He will come back to the fold in his own time when he finally realises cold turkey doesn't work with TZD addiction.

Oscar

if you want weened off the BX TZD, get an XM TD instead - bigger, faster, more toys, more comfortable ...

Much as I enjoy the BX, the XM is a whole new beastie - and a much better one.

In what way is the Zx a nasty horrible car , they handle better than the Bx , are built better than the Bx ,don't rust as bad as a Bx , fair enough they don't look as quirky as a Bx but as a daily driver are definetly the better option than an ageing creeky Bx , I have had both and IMO the Zx is the better car , and a 1.9 Td volcane 5 dr a very good allrounder

Mark your in the wrong place to argue against a BX in favour of a ZX  BUT I agree the ZX is a great little car, but it lacks that little something which some older Citroens doo.

/\ Likewise. Perhaps the difference is in the relative ages of the cars, certainly the ZXs I've seen and worked on seem no better or worse than BXs at the same age. But, if you like 'em then fair enough!

You'll have a job with that on here mate!

Nasty horrible car is a bit strong for a Volcane or 16v (but then Ken never has the plush models :P ) but.....

Handle better? Probably, although the cooking ZXs handle in a very similar way to BXs.
Better built? No way! Every ZX I've had has either had a door handle that felt like it will fall off, or had already fallen off. The interior is no better or worse in terms of quality of build, which considering the BX is much older makes the ZX worse, in my mind. Even if it does seem newer.
Don't rust as bad? See previous comments.
Better daily driver? In what way? The BX has better visability, is more comfortable, rides better, is just as spacious inside and with a bigger boot. Neither are remotely modern, so the fact the BX is a bit older in design is a bit of a non-starter for me.

And yes, I've had both too. Lots of them! :P

She Who Must Be Obeyed, first coined by H. Rider Haggard in his rather wonderful novel "She".

The ZX is better built, more mannerly, more comfortable, easier for SWMBO to drive, more normal-looking, but it's a ZX. And I want a BX.

Plus fuel consumption is stupid at the moment - 35mpg. I'm at my wits' end, I've changed filters and injectors, and cleaned the intercooler. I don't think the intercooler is airtight - would that make such a difference? It's smoking loads again as well. I'm fed up.

It even has its ownfuel when you go into what was formerly a Shell site in NZ! No more V power just ZX Power now Oscar needs to come over here with his beastie.........oh wait sorry forgot it is a diesel.

Oscar After 20 odd years of BX ownership with a 3 year gap of pineing for a BX I feel your pain. So bad is my own addiction to this motor that a few weeks ago I actually contemplated getting rid of either one or both BXs because of the headaches being caused and was seriously looking at a Xsara  However driving yet anothe automatic and a 1600cc at that around here was not my favourite option although the price was reasonable but on the edge.

So what did I do I go out and buy another BX and join the diesel throng

It certainly ain't post-feminist. 'Er indoors' is an Arthur Daley line circa late 1970s and slightly later than Rumpole of the Bailey, in which Horace Rumpole's persistently refers to his battleaxe wife Hilda as SWMBO.

Oscar references Rider Haggard's 'She' which was news to me, but apparently the 'She' quote was made explicit in one of the TV episodes.

Totally inconsequential but that's why it's trivia!

Last word - SWMBO is an anagram of WOMBS.
