Another MK 1 owner

Post by Mothman »

Hi all,

just to inform you that i have become the proud owner of a maroon MK 1 1.9DTR. Used to belong to Chris [REN16TX].

Known to the forum as Sophie, Chris was sad to part with her. I can assure all that she will be lovingly cared for, waxoil will be copiously applied in the very near future as the first major job. Now will be keeping my eyes peeled for MK 1 bits as well as the 1.6 and 1.9 diesel.

Dear Andy.
Well done Andy, seems a very nice BX from what pictures I have
seen of Sophie Andy, is that one the LHD one Andy ? if so the photo,s
of the dashboard as I remember is really unusual and very novel 8)
When did you decide to buy her then Andy ? I think it is a really
fantastically damn good idea
Are you able to put some photo,s of Sophie ? or is it too complex.
I couldn,t buy her as my SAAB 900i is called Sophie aswell
When someone says to you, is it an estate ? you say, no she is
in really good nick actually
Best Wishes Andy and good luck with your new car too.
Vince.

Nice one! The interior of that car is simply stunning. I demand more photographs! Seems this really is the year of the Mk1.

I will take more piccys but cant get photobucket to upload them so i hope someone will be so kind as to put them on for me.

Its going to need a filter change, oil/fuel/air etc, are these readily available and from whom? Feebay dosnt seem to help re the airfilter.

The dashboard certainly is a bit different and i will have to get used to it, especially the lights and indicators. The interior is also damned good too.

I will be working on her over the winter and if i can do any local motor shows next year, mum permitting, i will.

Hi Andy

I would try your local factors, or maybe GSF?

The airfilter is like a sponge/foam type and I think you can wash it out?

I picked one up at the National Rally.

If you're down in Sussex, try SpeedySpares. They're more Rootes-stuff, but do carry some French stock. They kindly supplied a thermostat for my 1973 Renault 5 when I owned that.

Trouble is, it's the wrong one! must be for a C15 or ZX or somat.

Could be made to fit easy enough for a man with a pair of scissors and 10mins to spare. :)

That's all you can do. I don't think many of us are trained mechanics - we just have a go. For me, I just can't afford to send everything out to a garage.

As I often say, none of us are born with any mechanical knowledge, we just pick it up along the way.

I'm just a tinkerer, whose been fortunate to pick up lots of good advice from those more experienced than myself.

Dear Andy.
It might not be of much use, only being in Kent just over 2 years and
not knowing my way around down here, and only having had the 2
Citroens for only a couple of months now, the BX and my daughters
Saxo. Up until then when my daughter had her Renault megane auto. I
was down there very often indeed. As far as I am aware they are GSF
suppliers anyway.
They are called AJAY,s at Aylesford. Unit 3 Motorway House, Aylesford,
KENT ME20 7AF. Tel;- 01622 790399 Mick and the guys there are really
supersonic. They are part of the Jagar Group who have a place in
Tunbridge wells I think ? allthough I am not sure. I haven,t had to contact
them yet for any Citroen stuff, but hopefully they may help ?
Hope this may help Andy.
