Post by Jmcc »

As the topic says - any recommendations for tyres for my TZD?

Thanks!

This topic is about to open a can of worms!

It really depends on you Budget BUT dont scrimp on the cheapest you can get and also look for quality but if you can get quality cheap then thats a win.

I had Michelin Energy tyres on my old BX. It cornered like the wheels had been greased. Swapped to brand new Hankooks - brilliant tyre and not expensive. I've had them on a couple of cars now and have been very pleased.

Always used Unitoyal Rallye 540's and later 550's when 540's became very hard to get. I love them, but I do have alloys on mine, hence they are wider..
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Thats interesting the TXD has a set of Hankooks fitted 3 in need of replacing soon. I was thinking of another set of TZ100s but apparently they have been replaced by another so called Economy fuel saving tyre.

The ride on my TZD saloon was transformed by fitting Mitchelin Energy's. I won't fit anything else now, they give a much much smoother ride.

Michelins are good. But even better, in my experience were Klebers (made by Michelin). Some people swear by Vredsteins.

Perhaps the Energy tyres on the Green Tiger were old or something. I changed them before they actually wore out because the handling was so bad. On a wet roundabout, you could feel it scrabbling for grip. That's even before deploying the full 71bhp to really test them.

I liked klebers on my TZD. Still got a set on the anthracite alloys cluttering my junk room up  :D

I had Hankooks on my old car, tended to really struggle for dry grip in corners but proved phenomenally durable - I advertised them as "new tyres" when I sold up after 12k miles as they pretty much were. Cheaper than Conti/Pirelli/Michelin too.

It may be slightly different because it's a GS, but I've had good results with both Firestone & Toyo - the latter having better grip but not as long lasting on the front.

How about 'Shandong Linglong' or 'Hangzhou Zhongce Rubber Company?' - two well known brands you can really trust! ( I didn't make them up but I might as well have..)

I had exactly the same problem with Energy tyres - wet grip was awful. I didn't think the ride was as good as the original MXLs either. I'll be needing some new tyres for the second TZD soon, so will follow this thread with interest.
