Savoy Garage

Post by maxgreenwood »

Does anyone here have any experience with Savoy Garage in Hapton, Burnley, Lancs?

I think i've seen them referred to on here as kind of in the same league as Wolsey House Motors, delivering spot-on cars. Would that be the case? I've bought unwisely in the past privately and want to go the Cit specialist route for an XM estate. It's a bit of a trek to view/collect so i want to make the right move.

I have experience with this guy. I took the 4x4 there as I only live a few miles away.
When the clutch first went I put it in a different garage because I couldn't get the engine out in my apartments carpark. They didn't know anything about the car so they rang him and he said to charge about £1200 for the job. They said they weren't gonna do it.
I didn't know they'd rung him so I rang him and he said to bring it down so he could get a look at it. He then said £1300. I thought "f*ck that".
I then decided to change the spheres as that was a more pressing issue I managed to get the front ones done myself but couldn't shift the rears so I took it to him because he had the tool for it. Whilst it was on the ramps, the rear subframe mounts broke. Obviously this wasn't ideal. he lashed up the back end with some metal wire and I drove it (slowly) home. But whilst I was there he was saying "stick it on car and classic, you don't know the mounts went... cars are sold as seen. you might get a grand for it"
He then told me a tale of how he'd done very little to an XM and managed to get good money for it "even though it was worth about half that".
Then he told me he'd take my BX in against an XM from him. Maybe I look stupid or something. :)

Maybe his cars he sells are good quality but with him giving me that advice on selling the 4x4 I didn't trust him from then on. he bid on the car when Richard bought it actually but he rang me trying to get me to sell it a couple of hundred to him.

I know of someone who had a similar experience. Nuff said.

Buy a BX 19D estate instead; you know what to expect there... and I know there's a good one near here

Max are you in the CCC. They do a listing called GBU. Good Bad and Ugly. Basically a list of decent Citroen specialists and some main dealers. Or why not contact someone from the Xminations pages of the Citroenian. Regards Mark.

Rigbye's of Eccleston ( 20 mins north of Wigan) are probably the best Cit dealers in the country.
I've used them for over 20 years.
I also have the best 19 n/a for sale that you are likely to find,
With enough spares to make another.

 Not the old quarry where they found the handless corps by any chance,

There have been several drownings (accidental) :) as well.

Rigbye's is at the north end of the town, just before St Mary's church and opposite the famous Farmers Arms eatery. 8)
I'v been buying cars and parts from them for more than 20 years now and they are excellent. They are listed in the good on CCC and sometimes hold tech w/ends. They have done work for me also when I've been busy and the body shop made a first class job of the Picasso's front end when I ...err
a bollard jumped in front of me

 8) They never got anyone for the killings of either him or his partner in crime.
There were rumours that 2 amercan visitors visitors, in the area at the time, were the contractors, but they disappeared.
What a surprise :)
