Diesel sump plug washer

Post by robt »

Simple question - what type of washer do I need before doing an oil change? Is it this aluminium/rubber type:

Or these ones?

Thanks

I'm not sure what the size is exactly, but I have a bag full of the copper ones that I've always used.

simply hold the old copper washer over the gas ring until cherry red - then drop it in water. Ready to use again.

thats ok if it is a solid copper washer, but i dont think it would work on the holow type of copper washers,

the main point should be the sieze not so much what type, as i think either type will be fine, unless your going concoures then it should be a copper washer,

i think the sieze is either 16 or 18mm, fairly sure its not 20mm,

Thanks all. I've got some copper ones here so will give them a go. Or failing that the heat technique!

Cheers

£2.50 for 25 of the compression type copper washers from www.beal.org.uk

I warn you though - you'll end up spending a fortune on tynkyns* once you start looking round the site.

Best I avoid that then, as I've spent enough already this month! Thanks for the link though.

Did the oil change yesterday and used the old washer, touch wood it doesn't appear to be leaking.
