Glad you've got it and like it :)

I've just done 750 miles in mine last week and although slow, it's behaved itself returning 56mpg and giving us a relaxing drive and ride. :D

Maybe it's not the car, maybe it's me

Surely it must have been pretty slow to get 56mpg? Not sure my NA diesel manual ever managed that! Probably because I spent too much time proving that they're not as slow as people think...

I can get 58mpg doing 65mph on a run in my manual txd, so those figures look good to me, infact i thought the auto's had a longer top-end gear than the manual & could get even better mpg.

God knows how you get 58 mpg , but then again running along a 65 mph isn't worth that extra mpg as far as the Red Baron is concerned. Driven fairly hard and fast it's getting 48. Happy with that

Best i have ever done on a trip down to Looe in my N/A diesel is 52 and thats hammering her as hard as she will go. How you can do better at speed is wishful thinking in my book. These are not the modern diesels that will do 80+ to the gallon and i reccon a lot of this is just B*****t for those claiming over 55 mpg  .

Hang on a minute, you got 52mpg hammering it as hard as you could? Then surely an extra 3mpg if you don't hammer it is achievable, and not to be doubted if others claim to manage it?

Hi Mat,

even when not 'hammering' it, never got better. I have always maintained a record of all my mileage on all my vehicles in a notebook carried with each motor and never bettered 52 whether fast or slow. Been doing this for many many years so when i hear ' ive got 58 mpg' or so take it with a pinch of salt as you say. Maybe all my cars are knackered, i dont know but to do better than the 'specs', well shell diesel allowed, i think is poetic licence.

I agree with you that some figures I hear quoted appear incredibly good, and I wonder whether they are skewed by a pump nozzle cutting off too early when filling.
I've noticed a huge difference on my (turbo) diesel, depending on how I drive. I've got a best of 53mpg and a worst of 36mpg since I started using fuelly about 5k miles ago, but a worst of 25mpg previously

Be prepared for a lot of people 'vigorously' defending their fuel economy though!

How on earth is a non turbo diesel slow? So the acceleration isnt particularly impressive. That would only really be felt on town based journeys when accelerating every stop/start . If you were on a long haul this would be virtually irrelevant - it's comfortable at 80 mph all day.

This is an ideal car for long journeys at high speeds. I really dont get it. What is this imaginary problem some people have? Go for your turbo diesels of you like. No problem. But for long drives the turbo makes virtually sod all difference.

I think you may be missing the point, Ken is referring to an automatic N/A diesel which don't have the same potential acceleration as the manual N/A cars. The N/A diesel is the sedatest of all diesel BX's and the automatic box was never put in the turbo by Citroen as it wasn't considered strong enough for the engine although one of our members has done a proffesional conversion with uprated components. (Which I would like to own)
