BX-less

Post by mnde »

My BX has gone, gone to live in bonny Scotland.

It did the 400 odd mile journey on Saturday, driven up by a friend of the new owner, Scooters on this forum, who should be picking it up today.

I miss it already :( but I think it's for the best. I'm trying something else for a while, that hopefully will be cheaper to run in the short-medium term, and I still have the GSA of course. It doesn't mean I'll be quitting this forum! :)

Renault Megane 1.4e is a fail Mark. Quite a big fail!

You'll be back, probably in an BX 14. 8)

Always good to hang around here Mark. I tend to have spells of BX ownership but every time I get rid of one, I end up missing them terribly! Another never seems far away...

Yes I know I have strayed from the Citroen path, but the R*nault was available, in the family since new, and most importantly cheap  - and like I said I fancied a change for a bit. Having two rare hydropneumatic Citroens got a bit much sometimes, and I was spending money on the BX instead of the GSA.

I do like the idea of tooling around in a car I don't care about, that you could scrap without any qualms if something major failed. So if using the Renault gives you the time and money to spend on what makes you happy, all well and good! :D

I happen to know it's an earlier Megane, so far less trouble than the later ones!

I also fully believe in ignoring any hype about a car. Seem to have survived a Rover 414 with the K-Series lump and a VM-engined Range Rover so far, and have just bought a Rover 75...

Thanks Mark,

I will look after the Meteor...getting rare in petrol format. The BX will be my daily over the winter. I suspect if I leave it standing by March there will be a lot to do on it. Cars need to be used and this means it will get all my attention/resources as it must be kept in top mechanical fettle.

I'm picking it up hopefully later today.

Early Meganes are better than most folk suspect later ones are a mechanical nightmare.

Rover 75 Ian....good choice and very underated. I'm considering an oilburning one as a work car for next year. Because punters are scared by the lack of dealer support they represent superb value for money.

Of course he's not alright Tim

Glad you're going to stay around Mark :-) and the GSA is certainly an interesting motor. When you really get to missing it drop by sometime and I'll drive you up to Sainsbury's in the BX (or the big white beast which is back on the road now as well :-) )

I didn't know that, but it resonates with me. I bought a 2.0 Dynamique Megane Coupe and flogged it two months later. Low mileage, immaculate condition but it was a real headache for all sorts of reasons and I was pleased to see the back of it.

Dad had a Megane Scenic motability car with the 1.4 16 valve engine. The day it was due to go back to Renault the coils packed in. I think it knew it was being replaced.

Dear Mark.
I echo Tim and Mr Kitch and MDS 141 Renault migrain, great one that  I still have my daughters 98 Renault megane 1.6 5 door auto
it has low miles of 75,000 miles, it cost her £ 600 2 1/2 years ago, I
spent a fortune and a whole 1 year working on to get it right. now I
can,t even give it away :!: a complete and utter money pit.
It is taking up my garage that my BX should be in out of the rain by
this time of year
I bought her a V-Reg Saxo auto for £ 850 has not needed looking at
yet, what a relief, now I can work on my BX until winter. :)
