BX GTI 16v For Sale

Post by simon »

hello all,i have a G reg, pre cat alloy block bx 16v. the car is red,120k miles paint is faded(not beyond polishing up) but body in very good rust free/undamaged condition, nice clean speedlines , have not run it for a year, but it was running very well pre parking up not burning a drop of oil or using water.
i have owned the car for 10 years (my cousin 5yrs before me) , is anyone interested .
i live in cornwall, but could deliver as far as bath area for a bit of diesel money,
i would be happy to email pics/my tel number if anyone is interested(prob give it a month or so, then ebay for 205 engine swap which is a shame as car is not a scrapper!).

No i haven't, the missus won't let me but i have been and had a look at it.

I think Mike P is currently interested but if not i'll post up my appraisal. Simon is looking around the 500 mark and i think with a bit of haggling it's very worth saving!

A couple of people have emailed me for details about this 16V, so here's my honest opinion. It's definitely worth saving!!!

It's a Ph2 in Venetian pink, i say pink but it's more pink/white but most of it is just normal bleaching and would most likely come up with t-cut save for the couple of very small patches of lost lacquer.

Fortunately the body panels are VERY straight with not a single blemish of note. The inner wings appear 100% solid as do the front hinges and n/s rear arch/sill. The offside rear arch/sill has burst through at the seam where they usually do but it's by no means terminal. The rear bumper is good but the front has a minor knock to the right edge of the number plate recess, again only minor. The sills themselves look solid, but as the car is on the deck it's hard to see much more than the slight jacking damage to the n/s/r skirt (although you can't see the damage from a normal view point.

From the little i can see underneath i did detact a few small areas of rust around the footwell drains and the front subframe but none appear to be significant. The rear-arm bolts are not original so would suggest the bearings have been done at some point though i couldn't say when.

The interior is generally very nice and it has a "mountney" type steering wheel. It didn't appear wet or mouldy so i doubt there's been any sunroof issues.

It is missing the anthracite speedlines but does have a set of 6J silvers in probably the best condition i've seen. Tyres all have good tread but sadly are absolutely shot by the cornish sunshine!

As for mechanically, it's hard to tell as it's not running but Simon comes across as a genuine bloke and is more than willing to help a genuinely interested buyer to get it fired up. The exhaust is not original past the frontpipe and appears to be a cobble of steel pipe and stainless "cherry bomb-type boxes". It's not my taste but looks serviceable if not a little restricted by the small diameter outlet.

Realistically i think you're gonna be looking at a T-Cut, service, cambelt, discs & pads and a weeks worth of fettling and as long as nothing else comes to light it could be back in service for £200-£300... oh, and tyres.

He's looking for around the £500 mark. I think it's very saveable and worth doing... to the right person at the right price. If he sends you pics they will no doubt just show you the very sad sight of a pink car with a dirty engine.

Cheers, Jay.
