BX DTR turbo performance figures

I have an original promo brochure for the BX DTR turbo model here - 1988 i think they came out. The 0-60 time is 11 secs, but i've seen the TZD turbo spec and that's 10 secs. :?

are they different? Different turbos i think were used through the years, perhaps the factory changed the turbo pressure over time? As far as i know the engine output around 90bhp is the same?

(I hope to be viewing a DTR turbo this month)

They're all 88bhp IIRC. To be honest the number of years and miles that have passed under it will have a bigger impact than what spec it is. Lots of book times aren't to be believed anyway - best example is Citroen Saxo VTS and Peugeot 106 GTi. Same shell, same engine, same gearbox, nearly identical kerb weights.

Saxo - 0-60mph test carried out with one driver, low fuel and taking second gear to the limiter @ 62mph. Result, 7.2sec to 60mph and ins group 14.

106 - 0-60mph test carried out with driver, passenger, full tank of fuel and (allegedly) changing into 3rd before 60mph came around. Result 8.3secs and ins group 13 (premiums did end up being alot lower).

Same car!

Possibly have slightly different gearing in those bx models with different figures?

that's interesting, i thought about the gearing possibility.

I'll have a go and see what it feels like. After becoming quite ridiculous at times researching different stats on cars, my current view is that it can only be decided when test driving, quite a subjective thing i think. I find the 1.6 petrol manual rewarding to drive for example because of the fact you have to work the gears well to get it to move well. That in combination with soft suspension makes round town feel like rallying in the 70s!

Looking at the UK 1988 brochure, the DTR and RD Turbo both have the same performance figures as in the later brochures. Whether they were accurate then, and still the same now is another matter...
(I remember bragging to one of my friends at school about how my dad's DTR Turbo was faster than his Dad's Sierra :oops: )

So what's the plan for your 1.6 engine Max? Is that on the back burner for now?

Hi Mat,
the 1.6 is on the oil burner. Using stop smoke to thicken up the oil has improved things a bit, but it still stinks when up to temperature and what sounds like the crank is still knocking.

But yes, it has somewhat moved to the rear of the hob.

And we are a bit stuck with one 20mpg Saab. So i am on the lookout for another, and meanwhile something interesting has come up...
