Once i get a dremmel thingy for xmas i'll be having a go at doing some of the other minor rust on my car. If it goes well you'll have to pop over & i can show you how to have a go, unless you already know of course & in which case you can give me a hand on mine

I wondered who that nutter was behind me tonight At least i've seen your face without the obligatory bike helmet.

Polo's for some strange reason always seem to rust in the places where your's has, especially the doors & sill area, most peculiar. Once i get some practice in, you'll have to pop over & i can give it a go. I really hate rust even when its hidden from general view, & it can make a perfectly presentable car in a very short period of time become a scrapper if it gets into any structural areas.

Have you had a look underneath your car yet? Fingers crossed that there aren't anymore horros

Is yours the obligatory 1.4 8valve engined model?

I have had a look underneath, it's solid enough thank goodness!

It is the 60hp 1.4 8v. I need to get to the bottom of a few issues, but I'm pleasantly surprised on how well put together most of it is and the engine is a really peach, well geared lots of torque and 40mpg!

Alfaman, I've driven one of these motors & i quite liked it Shame it was that hideous grape colour thought, what the hell were they thinking They also did a horrible green & peach colour as well, which are even more disgusting than the grape.

Need to get some kurust on that rust asap before it gets worse over winter.

Paul296 has done his magic work with the spray paint, its looking ace, just needs finishing off with laquer & thats job done, cheers Paul

And i hope the war wounds heal quick (Paul unfortunately walked into my garage door which due the wind had come down & was at face height ). A bit of disenfectant & some plasters later, all was sorted luckily no stitches, i felt quite bad about it really

Fitted some new Headlight bulbs, Osram Nightbreaker Plus & they certainly are better than my last set of bulbs which i thought were a big improvement over the originals. It would seem that bulb technology has improved even over the last 4-5yrs.

I also got some sidelight bulbs as per the link below & low & behold they're the wrong type I went onto a website & it said that these would fit the BX. Anyone know the exact model number/type that i need please?

Frontlines checked the suspension to find the knocking sound, now'ts wrong, so it must be the strut They did adjust the brake switch for me, so now i've got correctly working brake lights

Sadly my car has let me down, only a CV joint but I'm going to get the other bits addressed at the same time...

Alway's annoying when cars need work, but then again these are old cheap depreciation free motors, so a few repairs along the way in the big scheme of things isn't too bad.

What makes me laugh is that most people as soon as their car needs to go to the garage for the 1st time to get any work done on it (usually telling me its been trouble free for years & years ) at the 1st sign of any expense, they get it fixed & then get rid & usually say it was costing them too much money & then they go out & replace it with a much more expensive motor at this works out cheaper Erm, no, i presume basic maths isn't used much these days....

Changed the fuel filter today & topped up the oil.

Paul296 kindly came over to sort out my rust rear door shuts. Really glad as he managed to uncover the driver side one which eventually yielded a rather large hole. If i'd left if any longer it could have gone into the sill which would then have been a massive job.

So today he ground out all the rust, kurust'd the areas, used filler & bridging mesh were required & sanded it all down & got some primer on. He'll kindly be coming back next Sat to sand them down again to get them looking like new & re-primering to follow with painting them so that they look brand new.

Cheers for your help & good company Paul, learnt a lot & will be getting a dremmel for xmas so that i can tackle the other bits on the car that need doing.

Still needs lacquering and polishing of course. Speaking of polishing; showing the rest of the car the business end of a bottle of T-cut wouldn't go amiss!

The polo is going for a MOT tomorrow @ Formula 1 in Chesterfield. The results of which will determine whether the rest of the bits will get done.

Formula 1 will look after the repairs if the list isn't too long....

Oh Dear Luckily it was just a Polo

Are you mechanically minded at all? Would be interesting to have had a look at the list to see exactly what needed doing, i suspect welding was required in a number of places? Shame as on the face of it, it seemed ok apart from the bodywork rust.
