BX Club at the NEC - Stand discussion

Post by Dollywobbler »

Just a thought chaps - 2012 is 30 years of the BX. Do you think we should try and get a stand at the NEC? Can't promise it's easily done, but I'm sure we could put a strong case together if we wanted to.

Does the BX Club have any management folk who need to green light this? Is anyone else interested in giving up their time (three days to cover, plus Thursday for set-up - but no-one has to do the entire weekend) to help?

Must be worth a try. Depending on the shift rota, I'll lend a hand.

Its quite involved setting up a stand, bearing in mind you will need insurance and I think you have to pay for the pleasure!

Of course I would be more than happyto lend a hand, time and cars and im local.

Clubs don't pay Tim! I'll do some digging to find out what insurance is needed. Public liability perhaps? Naturally, anything that requires actual money might make this a non-event, but we could always try and stage appearances at other shows - such as La Vie en Bleu at Prescott Hillclimb in May perhaps? Only had one BX on the Citroen stand last year.

Hi Ian,

You dont pay to attend, im sure you have to pay for the electricity and various other bits and bobs which means its not free. I know that was the case in 2007 when I was on the SD1 club stand.

Again count me in I can contribute.

Right, it seems you need public liability insurance, though the organisers will charge you £15 a day if your club doesn't already have it in place. That's £45 needed. Electricity is only to be paid for if you use it. Personally, I don't think it's necessary. We would also need to put together some background reading material and some big anniversary signs, so that could be another few quid.

Question is, do we ask for donations from members to cover these costs or do we just knock it on the head? Thoughts appreciated.

The person who acts as club liaison for this show appears to be on leave until March, so not sure there's a desperate rush! I do think we should consider having a small presence at other shows as well.

I for one would be happy to stump up some cash and come along, as I (assume) would be able to spend an hour or so wandering around the halls. So if you look at it that way it's going to be similar to paying to get in anyway! If you wanted my car to be on display that wouldn't be a problem, but there are probably more cosmetically appealing, more original BXs around to fit the bill...

I think it's a great idea! To do it seriously though would (I think) require some outlay from members (I'd be willing to chuck a few bob into a fund) - promotional material, 'info' boards etc. don't come free. If we were to do it, it would be worth making a really pro job of it - I thought the CCC stand this year looked a bit 'down at heel'?

Potentially, I'd be up for making an appearance and putting a few quid in if needed. As you know Ian, it's not all about super shiny cars, anything rare and/or interesting fits the bill.

So that's a 1986 Mark 1 19 DTR estate and a 1994 19 TD van in the running
