Max's GTi

Post by maxgreenwood »

Hi folks, as promised here are some pics of the new GTi waiting for the Dublin-Holyhead ferry on the 23rd. It is very solid, little or no rust, and feels tight. A couple of running issues have come to light which are in the process of being sorted or diagnosed. More about this in the tech section. I want to replace the wheel trims for something appropriate, but not mad on the speedlines....

Ooo 'ello! That looks top - VERY nice car! \:D/ I expect Tim will be along in a minute to tell you what 'appropriate' wheels are for a GTI. Probably speedlines I would have thought?

Nope the original trims were with the car until recently, the previous owner ignored my comment about tiewrapping them on an PING, one flew off as they do.

Speedlines were optional on GTi 8v's (unless it was a Hurricane Edition)

thanks guys, it is a nice one. I'll try and keep it that way. It has had some encounter down the driver's side as the front wing is a replacement (used to be red by the looks of things) and a discerning eye can tell the door has been filled, good paint job though. Other than that a couple of small dents, all been touched up in correct colour (kit in boot - good sign).

I wasn't that enamoured with the orig wheel trims, so much so i forgot to take them away with me  . I'm not mad on the chunky speedlines either. I like the mk1 alloys as on Phil's old estate but i'm not sure they would suit the late GTi. Might go for TZ variety or i quite like the mk2 leader ones. The 16TZS still has it's ones, one chipped, would like to get some new ones really, or i wonder if they might look good in a slightly darker / lighter shade of grey, or maybe a metallic spray the same as the car.

I don't think the trims on it at the moment are too bad. Reminiscent of the alloys on Todd's Yellow Peril.

Looks a lovely BX BTW. 8)

That looks great Max. A family wagon with a bit of poke and a lot of style! And enough space for your 'ole Joanna' in the boot.

Off with the trims I say too. Maybe bare steelies for that stealth look? :D

I'd say the trims really let it down. Silver 5.5J Speedlines or something in-house Citroen.

Hi Vince, it's the 8v and I'm really happy now I've had the rear arm bearings done, magic carpet restored.
Todd, yes this is a really practical family wagon, economy isn't too bad either. And all BXs fit a full length piano flightcase in very snuggly.
The wheel trims have to go but I've just been more concerned with getting it to feel right first.
I'm now worried about keeping it really good as it does seem to be remarkably 'fresh'. Especially with those pesky, more specifically, messy kids. Full home valet tomorrow. :D [/quote]
