BX Specialists in the West
While I may be getting (slowly) on top of the RD's bodywork issues, there's an awful lot that is needed mechanically. The engine is down on power, leaks oil like a crop sprayer, still has hydraulic issues, the steering rack needs gaiters and a track rod end needs replacing. That's just the stuff I know about...
It may just be the time of year (and the never ending rain...) but I can't see me getting much of this work sorted, so thought I might need to lob a bit the way of a specialist. However, I don't know any this side of the country. Anyone got any recommendations?
Wish my Citroen mechanic in Birmingham hadn't retired!

Where in the west? This is my local Citroen specialist, they've been at it for a very long time.

If you want to go over the bridge(s), bristol 2cv's are great and come highly recommended by many on cit forums and the doc too... manny seems happy to chat and offer advice on the phone too which you don't get that often these days..

they do make exeedingly good coffee though!
Bristol may be a bit far to go, but if I wasn't able to do my own repairs and engineering Bristol 2CV's are the only garage I'd trust to touch my cars.
Not to be confused with Avon 2CV's of course, assuming he is still going..

Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!
Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

A bit further up the A38 is Tony Weston at Cambridge, just north of Slimbridge. They specialise in hydraulic Citroens, although they'll work on anything, and any jobs they cannot do they have a local network of specialists (eg spraying). They've done various jobs on my cars over the years and are the only garage I use.
One of the sons is somewhere on this forum, and was the owner of a certain Mk1 DTR for a while!

Bristol 2CVs once tried to tell me that the 'knock sensor' fault code from the read-out on my 16v was a fault in the alarm system. It doesn't even have an alarm, and furthermore I knew that the knock sensor was part of the engine management system...
However on other occasions they were very good to me when I lived in Bristol, so maybe I was just unlucky with a new starter or sommat!

PS http://www.frenchcarsshrewsbury.co.uk/garage-services once did an MoT for me. I didn't actually meet them (my dad took the car in) but judging from the reasonable price and lack of idiot fails on the sheet they seemed to at least vaguely know their way around a BX.
This was 5 years ago though, so staff may have changed...

I use Tony & Andrew Weston in Cambridge near Gloucester for all the work on my CXs, BX16V, Visa and Jowett Javelin except for tyres and specialist diesel service and they are brilliant... Its worth the journey.

How long ago was that Rob? Sounds like an Andyism, he's long gone now..RobC wrote:Bristol 2CVs once tried to tell me that the 'knock sensor' fault code from the read-out on my 16v was a fault in the alarm system.
