Yes when I wanted to buy this car off John without the fresh 6 months tax that was to be included he was only willing to knock off £50 hence no deal.

Have you used Drydens? Rednal's easy enough for me, is it on the A38 along the row of shops on the right as you head toward Birmingham? There's a place that sell protective workwear and always has a mannequin in full hi-viz get up near them?!

Hmm, seems to be some misunderstandings here.

I sold the car to Jon and he was indeed aware of the radio coming out and the fact that the blower had recently stopped working. I actually discussed this with Kevan who advised that there was a repair outlined in the FAQs here , which I then mentioned to Jon

Re the wheel bearings, it didnt even occur to me that there was a problem, I dont know what they look like, im not a mechanic and the car drives just fine. Does the rev counter matter...really? Is this something anyone would deliberately withold info on to try to mislead?

Kevan, your account of why you didnt purchase, i.e the offer of £50 off for the tax is, lets just say, dissapointing, but you seem like a decent bloke.

I'll sort the tax issue with Jon directly. I forgot, its simple as that. I stopped driving the car more than a week before it was sold.

Not everything is how it appears chaps, and not everyone is on the grab.

Noone is saying you tried to hoodwink him, just from my point of view if it were me I wold have been a little disapointed that I wasnt told about them previously.

The cars in at the garage today as the fuse that powers the rev counter and a few other bits was missing, but keeps blowing when refitted so seems there is a wiring/earth issue.

Up to you if you wanted to compensate about the tax, would be a nice jesture as the rear arm bearings will be costing quite a bit!.

Sorry John, I didn't mean you were on the grab either. I just let tiny little things like that put me off. I valued 6 months tax at £110 or similar you valued it at £50. I should really have come back with a counter offer but I never do, I never haggle I just look at what someone wants and think about it. If it feels right I pay it and don't if it doesn't. I lost this one because I let a silly little thing like that put me off but rightly or wrongly that is just my way. I shouldn't have brought it up on a forum and I apologise, it is my fault not yours.

EDIT: I'm strangely a great believer in fate. If it was meant to be it will be. This one wasn't meant for me.

Sorry Tim I know you helped Jon with this purchase but I would have thought if he has issues Jon should bring it to John's attention privately first. IMHO it isn't your place as a highly respected member of the BX/Citroen fraternity to do it on a public forum. If I had bought this twenty year old car and only foung a small electrical issue and rear arm bearings I would be very pleased?

Jon is not unhappy with the car, quite the opposite Kevan, but as he is a good friend for a good few years and a little "green" about BX's I was eager to ensure he got the best for his money. As is to be expected he did miss a few items that you or I probably would not have, it was dark I believe as well. I have been "talking him into" a BX for quite a while so want to make his ownership as painless as possible.

The tax situation looks to be a genuine mistake which John the seller has offered to put right which is nice gesture. The rear arms are a cost that was'nt envisaged striaght away but as we all know once they are done they make a huge difference to the way they ride and should last for as long as he keeps the car, so money well spent if he can find a trusted specialist to do it for a fair price.

So I thought I should probably chip in at this juncture! I had no idea that buying a BX would cause so much drama

The most important thing is that I am delighted with the car and very much looking forward to many miles of happy motoring. It's been given the green light by my trusted local garage today, which as a non-mechanic is music to my ears. Aside from a few jobs on the to-do list, some bigger than others (and absolutely what I would expect of a car 21 years old) its just ace!

John was really helpful throughout the buying process and I would say that many of the 'omissions' were likely a result of our combined mechanical (lack of) knowledge! He did indeed advise me that the stereo would not be supplied and that the blower had recently failed. I had ample opportunity to test out the car and ask any questions. The issue of the tax is now amicably resolved and simply an oversight.

Tim's been a great support and will continue to be hounded by me for valuable help and advice (sorry Tim!)

Anyway, I'm going to post some photos soon and hope to be at some events too this year. Until then!

Glad all the parties are happy, but i would recommend in future that this type of stuff isn't posted on an open forum, as lets face it, things are usually not exactly how they seem & its unfair on those parties involved. A small lesson for everyone who pitched in on this thread.
