Meridian 200 CD transport, 603 pre-amp and a Linn LK100 power amp :D The Meridian factory is only down the road in Huntingdon, so it's nice and easy (and surprisingly cheap) to get the stuff serviced.

Tempted to buy another LK100 and Bi-amp my speakers, but that's something for next year

iF, and thats a big if, go down the route of parcel shelf mounted speakers, should I consider putting a piece of wood under the shelf and bolt through rather than just fix them to the plastic parcel shelf ?
Obviously it couldent be to weighty

I've seen some BXs with parcel shelf speakers screwed straight to the shelf, so it obviously can take the weight as is. But in general, the more rigid the mounting ( ) the better for sound quality.
On another vehicle I glued and bolted some 1/2" ply to the hardboard parcel shelf, and bolted the speakers to that rather than use the self tappers usually provided with the speakers. The difference that made was bigger than the difference in fitting the upgraded speakers in the first place!
I suppose if it's too heavy the struts may struggle to hold the hatch upright, but you could always rest the speakers and ply (or weights) in position before doing anything permanently.
On the BX I think the front speakers would sound better if actually mounted to the door rather than the door card - something I may or may not get round to...

I took it from the clock feed, as well as the sidelight supply for the illumination.

If you don't have the digital clock, you can also come off the live side of the brake light switch

took the feed from the digital clock and finally have a working stereo in the car, thanks guys.
My only query now is, is it safe to have the ignition on while parked up so that I can listen to the stereo,
I seem to remember hearing somewhere that it could damage the coil if you leave the ignition on without the car actually running.

Doesn't the clock come on in the 1st key position? I.e. before the coil is made live. I've heard the same, but think it only applies to engine with points where a current would continually flow through the coil if the points were stationary in the closed position.

Is there anyone out their that is any good with car stereo wiring?

My old headunit stopped working. It would power up, but no sound eminated from the speakers, so i'd presumed that something inside the amp section had gone pop? However, very occassionaly it would come back to life?? No idea why, so at this stage i still thought that it was a component within the headunit that must be damaged somehow & that with vibration from the car, it would work again occassionaly?

So i decided to get a replacement headunit, different manufacturer, plumbed it all in, & again it powers up, but no fxxxing sound

I've been without a car stereo for a few months now, & i'm getting fed up.

I don't really have the knowledge to sort it myself, any idea of how much a pro might charge? or is there a kind person within reasonable distance of M1 J29 that i could visit to hopefully fix whatever the problem might be please?

I'm wondering whether the connections to the speaker share a common multiplug somewhere - I know the rear ones do under the centre console. What you could do is check for ~4 ohms resistance between each of the + & - speaker connections, to rule out a speaker problem.

am beginning to wonder if I have a dodgy ignition switch as everything seems to work on the "accesory" position including the electric windows and heated rear window
