Bx 16v HP Pump belt

Post by Martin W »

Does anyone know who might sell a Hydraulic Pump belt for a 16v BX, Citroen Part no. 96 035 624

There are 2 on gsf and www.eurocarparts.com but I dont know which one it would be (also no in stock).

Has anyone else bought one so I know it wil fit.

Thanks
Martin

I suspect this is to do with whether it is a Mk1 or Mk2 model of the 16V. If you tell GSF your model year they should be able to provide you with the right belt.

Incidentally even though ABS was standard on my Mk2 8v GTI , I am always asked whether it has ABS or not as many parts are apparently different for ABS cars.

This can be fun because I think you'll find they can supply up to 4 at times.
I had one sent over a couple of years back but when it arrived, I found it was a different size and wouldn't fit. I bought one at the local car parts place. My son had one snap on his way to Brisbane a couple of years back and bought one at an out of the way service station; he has a mark 1 I have a mark 2. He recently wanted another, so looked it up on a belts chart and was supplied the wrong one; twice. A friend is doing one over and gets a parts specialist to send him one; after 3 he had the correct belt.
Moral of the story is, unless you're the type that wins the Pools first try, get a number off the belt and order by number.

In their downloadable catalogue Quinton Hazell list 2 belts - QBA625 to 6/88 - ORGA no 4224, then QBA650.

Presumably this is a simple V belt 650mm long. Its used for vacuum pumps on other citroens, for PAS and vacuum pumps on various Peugeots, Fiats, Renaults, Talbot Tagora Diesel vacuum pump, (who has one of them?) Volga, VW transporters and even some Alfa's.

Precise details are available in the catalogue which is in acrobat format. A nice thing about the acorbat format (PDF) is that you can search it for other uses which can help when sourcing bits. QH have put many of their catalogues on the net and are doing the rest slowly.

I had to adjust mine on the Tri estate this afternoon. Don't know what you guys usually do, but I've found with this one that by removing the drivers side front wheel and the plastic inner guard, I can get direct access and save all that contortionists act that comes from doing it from above. Can't believe a belt can stretch that far in 1000 klms.
There was 70 knot winds with rain squalls here today, so it was more a case of necessity to find a simple way to do it in the confines of a garage and it worked particularly well. I asked the question because I had an ex Cit specialist spend a lot of time yesterday telling me all the tricks on doing it from the top which to me seemed highly impractical.:P

Hang on a mo - are we all talking about the same belt? I thought the original posting was about the short V belt that drived the hydraulic pump on the 16 valve - from the exhaust camshaft with a pump on top of the gearbox like a diesel. I think AlanS is talking about the auxilliary belt which would of course be accessed from the OS front wheel area.

I mention this as of course 8 valve GT1's have the hydraulic pump at this end of the engine.

The Tri has the accessories belt at the same end as the pump belt.
I mentioned it as I have seen so many write ups on the Houdini acts required to change it and I found this way was the easy option. Not meaning to throw too many spanners in the fire as I realise this was referring to a 16V belt originally.
