Body Coloured Mirrors

Post by Tim Leech »

Chaps, whats your thoughts on these, I was thinking of having the ones on the 16TRS painted to match the car, ive seen a few cars with them on and I am undecided.

They would be done professionally of course, sanded smooth etc, also will get the wheel arch spats done too as they are the earlier grained colour matched plastic but are look better on the later cars.

Ta!

They'd look shit because you've still got the huge black rubber gaiter over the arm.

Yeah, I know what you mean. On the one hand, its not 'original' spec but on the other, some of the bumpers come colour-coded, so not a travesty.

I guess I would leave as standard, for no other reason than the aggravation you might have when a mirror gets clipped by a close encounter. You might end up with having to re-do the paint job if the original mirror casing was completely knackered (V annoying) or have to touch it up (not quite so much of a pain).

I had a 'close encounter' of this kind on a narrow back road a couple of weeks ago and was really surprised there wasn't more damage given the noise of the contact - the mirror was OK and only a scuff on the casing which cut out quick easily. Had it been painted, it wouldn't have been so simple.

Still Tim, it's up to you. It would be good for anybody else considering this because they could see what your TRS looked like and decide whether it was worth doing.

Try one and see, they're still very cheap to replace. Personally I don't like the idea.

Nice idea but not original so might look a bit 'tarted up'?

Don't be tempted Tim. More trouble if they get clipped/scratched and too far removed fromt the original design. IMHO.

Thought so, the 16TRS doesnt get used much to be honest and I do have a stack of mirrors and some some olympic blue paint.

Think I will just leave it....for now.

Don't go there! Some nutter got a tin of gold Airfix enamel round the jet air intakes (or whatever they are) of my Hurricane before I got it - right bloody mess! Anyway, before tarting up your car Matt - you might want to think about cleaning it first?! :D :D

Just remembered this . . .

The only BX I can think of that had colour coded door mirrors. It looks like all the interior plastics were blue as well. Now THAT is rare!

IMO colour coding is OK, because I remember in the 1980s some people did get parts like mirrors and grills colour coded to match the bodywork, and shortly afterwards the manufacturers did it on the more up market versions of cars too.

Body colour coded mirrors was a selling point in 1989 car brochures!

At the 1987(?) Birmingham Motor Show on the Ford Stand, there was a competition for an XR2 which was Metallic blue, and all the mirrors & bodykit was colour coded. It looked very smart indeed, I still have a photo somewhere.

If you have a black BX, the mirrors are already in a matching colour, so you could paint the whole car black to achieve the same effect.

That BX Fashion is, well, gaudy. But I've never seen that before - and I think it's brilliant. 8)

Here's a couple more pics of the 'Fashion'. I think it's great = that interior is the bizniss! I'm not sure I'd drive one unless I was (for instance) a hairdresser though!? And I can't help thinking that 'Fashion' and 'Citroen BX' isn't a bit of an oxymoron somehow - like 'jumbo prawn' or something!? :D
