Same with anybody jacking the car up under the sill with a standard jack - I caught a tyre place doing that and they'd folded the damn thing over. I was furious!

Tim, have you found that you're 16 sounds (engine noise) very similar to your 19 GT? My GT (so satisfying, saying that) sounds very similar to the 1991 1.6 ZX i had a few years ago. A bit like a meaty sewing machine!

No I've never had this problem, have you tried a good pare of mole grips clamped on with a side to side twisting motion as you pull?

Happened to me before too on my mk2 astra, told them to unbend the jacking bit, and they did which was nice.

Yes. I have had problems before when removing the outers. Can't remember specifically what I did to remove them, but do remember having a spot of trouble.

Problem was in doing so they'd split apart the inner and outer sill slightly, breaking the sealant between the spot welds. Managed to do a fairly neat job in repairing it and re-sealing, and rust has not crept in now 6 years later. But still it was extra work for me.

Must have bent it quite considerably then? At least you could re-seal it, and banish the tin worm, but you shouldn't have had to in the first place.

PASSED! :D :D :D

All done, brakes needed the sliders greasing, and handbrake was the usual adjustment.

Oil seal and new cambelt on, NO MORE DRIPS! :D

Oil and filter changed too and door lock sorted.

Total cost less than £72 excluding parts.

Just had a quick wash to celebrate.

Just need to get it taxed and then I can get C1 TBX on! 8)

The 19 sounds different to the 16, not louder, just differentm quite tinny but all the 1.9 XU petrols sound like that.

Dear Tim.
Well done on the M.O.T Tim :D
My handbrake cables on the BX have worn through the outer cables
on both sides, that is why I am renewing them, they are usually an M.O.T
failure anyway.
I have the same problem whenever I take the SAAB to a garage
for an M.O.T they always try to open the bonnet the wrong way
When I had the CX I took it to a local Citroen dealer, he didn,t
want anything to do with it  :x I thought thanks for nothing. My
problem is I vote with my feet, and I don,t go back to them ever again.
All The Best Tim.
Vince.
