i replaced the one on my 17tgd with some clear plastic reinforced pipe i found at work,hardly any difference in noise and no loss of power.
i find my 17tgd quite nippy when over 50 mph takes a while to get there but will soon nip up to 70mph from 50mph no hassle

Well what a palarver today has been. It turned into an impromptu (what Tim would call) 'BX themed day', but not the relaxing kind with pub lunches and stuff like that;

Still seemed pretty bad when I took the car out this morning - filled up and added injector cleaner - nothing.

Changed the air filter - nothing

Gaffa taped up the pipe and replaced it - nothing

I gave Shaun a ring as I also needed to sort the welding on the inner wing now the weather's a bit more agreable. He's pretty sure the pedal box needs welding up as it's bent and not allowing full travel of the accelerator pedal - quite a common problem apparently (?) I'm no mechanic but my intuition is that that's the problem. I was getting a bit worried as to be honest, the acceleration was so bad it didn't feel like an air filter and cleaning up the injectors was really going to cut the mustard. Anyway, it's being sorted at the weekend along with the other welding.

The problem was I needed to get up to the bodyshop to have a look at my TZD as it's just had a new door/paint and the people who sent me the striping sent the wrong colour (arse!). Luckily, I managed to blag a lift in my mate Andy's van (after lugging furniture around for a couple of hours - there's always a catch!) Anyway, the good news is Steve at the bodyshop has done a spectacular job of the TZD, just have to go over to Ilkeston at the end of the week to pick up the proper stripes then it can go back to be polished and 'enstriped' (if there is such a word!?). I've a couple of new bits and peices to put on it - including a couple of 'as new' speedlines and it should look like 'my' TZD Hurricane again. I'm REALLY looking forward to getting that car back and in fine fettle.

So, like I said a 'BX themed day'. When they're both sorted they'll be extensively photographed and posted in the gallery - you have been warned!

Thanks so much for all the help and advice - very much appreciated. Without the help and support of this club there's no way I'd be able to keep BXs on the road.

It's very easy to check whether the pedal box is bust, get someone to sit in the passenger seat with the engine off, get them to press the throttle to the floor & at the same time you check the throttle lever arm on the diesel pump to see if its reach the end stop or not. I suspect if you try this you'll clearly see that it's nowhere near the end stop, so the pedal box is the issue.

Just get someone to slowly move the throttle pedal in the car while you watch the movement of the lever on the pump, when they say it's at full throttle in the car, is there any movement left on the lever on the pump.

Hi Vince,

Thanks for asking Vince - well everything seems to be progressing very nicely now; I've tied up all the loose ends on the Hurricane (well the important ones) and the TGD is about to be welded up and receive one or two other bits of trim that are letting the side down at the moment - if you know what I mean. Richard (RxBx) very kindly supplied me with an air intake hose and a new bonnet for the TGD ( the inner skin of the current one is rusting) so all in all; getting there. I'll post up some pics of them both when I've got everything done.

What do you mean you don't know much about diesels? Eveyone knows they are FAR superior to petrols in EVERY imaginable way . . . .

Drove (yes drove!) the car up to Shauns today. He advised me to have a look at the pedal to see if it was over to one side and bend it back - just to get me up there- if it was. It was indeed bent completely over to the right. I moved it back a couple of inches and the car drove perfectly - well not perfectly - according to Shaun I was still only getting three quarters of accelerator travel. Anyway, all the welding beings done tomorrow - Hooray! :D That cars gonna go like shit of a shovel now (well, if there's such a thing as 'leisurely' shit that is! :D )
