Fitted those 10w sidelight bulbs that Matt kindly found on the web, much improved over the older 5w one's

Checked my tyre pressures on Saturday when i realised that the pressure was down to 9psi on the psgr side rear, thats when i spotted the screw in the tyre

Then this morning the tyre was completely flat, so had to pump it up before heading off to work. Went to Kwick-Fit who are just round the corner from work & £21.50 later my tyre is fixed & now retains pressure...This is the 2nd time in 6mths that i've had a tyre pick something up

i had the very same thing last month and it cost me £8

Yup, rather expensive tbh, but it was Sunday, and it was late in the day when i finished work, so i was stuffed for time & for money as well

Erm, not sure where you get your tyres from, but this one was £64, so well worth saving seeing as it was only a few months old.

Sunday, lovely weather today, infact very warm i had to strip off

Paul296 kindly came over to continue his good work on rust removal & paint work on my TXD. In exchange for such quality workmanship i fitted new front brake pads & discs. It must be me, but they seemed to take bloody ages to do

The usual issues of them being rusted in & the metal slider bar on the driver side was an absolute beeeatch to get out. Once both sides were done i had a slight issue with getting the handbrake cables to fit into the lever, but a bit of thought & i manged to work out how to get them done with Paul's help. A quick blast up the road to check to make sure they stopped the car, saw a bit of a comedy of errors. As Paul was driving we could both hear a clonking sound, we both immediately thought driveshaft?

But no, i quickly realised, loose wheelbolts, which i'd forgotten to tighten up

We parked up & then i realised that the wheel bolt removal tool that Paul had was the wrong boody size

So i gingerly drove the car back to mine, & tightened them all up & out for another test drive which was a bit more succesful this time

Hope the brakes are fine mate?

Dear Mr Mulley.
That is a good way to get each others car done

I like that idea

Over the years, I have always removed wheel nuts with my power-
bar. Then always tighten them up with my torque-wrench, 75 lbs/ft for
steel wheels and 90 lbs/ft for alloys

I always put my torque-wrench in front of the front wheel, so as to
remind me to tighten the wheel nuts. and I have never left a wheel loose,
it is a good routine to get into

Hi Vince, seeing as i forgot to tighten them up, i'm probably just as likely to forget to put the wheel bolt tool nr the wheels as a reminder

Yes, its an ideal arrangement, we both get to have a good chat about cars, life etc...so its always entertaining, and we get to do some work on BX's & save each other a small fortune even if it does take us both a lot more time than the pro's would take.

But its always a satisfying feeling to sort out some jobs on someone else's car & then see the handiwork of someone else on your own & no cash exchange either, which is always a bonus in my book

We'll probably start doing a car parts swap shop next

Last friday i swapped my winter tyres for my summer one's

While the wheels were off, checked the brake pads & discs & all seemed fine, a reasonable amount of pad material left. They probably will need doing sometime this year, i'll wait until summertime to do them. Whilst i was looking, i cleaned up the brake caliper nipples of gunge etc..& used some penetrating fluid to help them come out easier hopefully when i tackle them later.

Also tackled some of the rusty bits on the doors & above the sills where the water ducts are (i think thats what they are?), managed to clean them all up & get some primer on them to stop them from re-rusting. Hopefully some more nice weather & i'll get to painting them.

Started using a bit of veg oil which i'd been stocking up on last year when it was on offer at 90p/l, which at the rate of diesel prices is nearly 60p/l cheaper

Scary fuel prices, i'm either going to have to drive even slower to get more mpg or try something radical such as aero. Anyone tried filling in the shut lines Or fitting undertrays to the bottom of the car to reduce drag?

Tax is due at the end of March as well

Haven't they just put it up in the budget? Of course it may just apply from the 1st of April.
