OK, so I'm exaggerating, and Speedy will need to know numbers to give a price so it's catch-22 in a way. But maybe they can give a price based on 5, and another based on 10 orders?
Should have that tomorrow, but will need to send them an old cable, Richard if you could post them your old cable once I know whats what please?

Thanks

Ive spoken to Mike at speedy, job is not a problem, he would look to make one long cable instead aswell as two seperate ones.

Now am I right in thinking the top half of the cable is the same on all Mk2 models but the lower one differs? is it the same for all XU powered BX's.

The 1.4 TU engined variety isnt a worry as there isnt many and theres normally a few cables on ebay.

Richard if you could post Mike the cable you have (and a lower one if possible) so he can use is a template. I will ensure you get it back.

There address is

Speedy Cables (London)
Caerbont Ind Estate
Abercrave
Swansea Village
SA9 1SQ.

He will then look at them, and come back to me with costings/numbers etc.

If you want one of these then please raise your hand, it wont be cost effective to have them made one at a time

Quite agree Mick, I wont be prepared to pay silly money, but I think if we can get a complete new cable/s for less than £40-50 all in I would live with that. I imagine as they are standard peugeot/citroen ends it chouldbt be a major job to make them.

Which one will make the speedo needle stop wobbling? & what does the other one do?

Seeing as i've got 2 cars, i'll provisionally say i need a couple of the one's that stop speedo wobble, depending upon price. It would be useful to have a guide & then club members can then make some decisions. Cheers for looking into this Tim & for Richard for sending some examples off :D

I'm with Mat with his order numbers suggestion, & don't forget the ICCR coming up, we might be able to advertise the fact that they can be made in batches & do any of the other clubs want to ge involved in ordering etc...

The top cable goes from the speedo to the bulkhead and are all the same, the bottom cable attaches to this and the gearbox drive and are varying lengths depending on which engine/box is fitted. I think either one can make the speedo wobble when worn.

What he says, can anyone confirm if the cable ona D/TD is the same, also if they are the same on a 1.6/1.9 XU? I imagine they are.

The wobble seems to be pretty much part of the BX experience, we had them when new and it wasnt long before they got the shakes.

Right ive spoken to Mike at Speedy cables, he doesnt have the connector that joins the two cables together so would have to make a 1 piece cable from gearbox to speedo head.

Price should be £30 a pop.

Anyone?

Whilst we're on the subject... Just got the red shed back from the garage after 22 months and an engine and gearbox change, and the trip meter and odometer work but no life from the speedo. None of the above worked before it went in to the garage.

My thinking is that if it is reading mileage then it should be reading road speed, or am I wrong and will a new cable fix it?

Nope sounds like the speedos buggered, if the cable was busted neither would work bud .

Does the man at speedy cables realise the cable has to go through a rubber grommet in the bulk head?

Its still getting the circa 9mm diameter 'union' through the rubber, its going to be a lot harder to get the 16mm gearbox 'plug' through the grommet.

I'd be interested in a single one, once someone has tried getting it through the 'ole.

I seem to think when i stripped Pug 405 down some time ago, that it has a single very very long cable, so perhaps its just a case of stretching the rubber?
