I now have variable intermittent wipe, and it must be the simplest modification possible. Simply find a VW group car from the late 90s, and look in the fusebox for a tallish black relay marked 99. Then substitute this for the blue wiper relay in the BX fusebox. Job done!

To vary the interval you flick it on to intermittent, then back to off. Once the screen needs wiping again after X seconds, put it back to intermittent and the interval will be X seconds - I think up to 30. Default is 6, which is reset when you turn the ignition off. Also, the number of wipes when you wash the screen is varied depending on how long you pull the stalk for - i.e. a quick flick will just give 1 wipe but a proper wash will give 3 wipes.

Finally, a use for VW!
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Or pink?

One more thing about the new wiper relay - it gives a flick wipe if you pull the stalk very briefly.

the default 6 seconds is better than the BX's standard 3 seconds between wipes

I followed your advice and am now sporting a black eye! I found a nice Golf in ASDA carpark but the owner went nuts just as I was putting the blue relay back in for him :?

£16.50 to have a intermittent wiper you have to reset every time you use it,
Dont they have scrap yards where you live Kevan

would it be worth wiring it to a permanent live instead of an ignition controlloed one so it "remembers " the setting ?

New delivered to the door for £16:50 or spend hours travelling to and scavenging round the scrap yard looking for a second hand one that might not work????? £16.50 everyday of the week in my book Mick!

You don't have to reset it everytime you use it just when you want to alter the default time of 6 seconds + the luxury of choosing a single quick wipe or tripple wipe in washer mode.

Here in Wales, the rain is permanently variable, so it makes sense to have wipers to watch! However, I thought the Ebay ones were a bit dear. Fancy setting up a Relay Export service Todd? Just drop a few off with the Citroen Challengers - must be loads of Golfs in scrappies where you are?

Having just changed to a valeo wiper ( £10 from halfords ) I would deffinately agree the single wiper is now more than adequate.

The head of the valeo wiper is quite chunky but it works really well.
When I get my pocket money I will change the rear one .

shshsh - don't tell Tim :D
But this is the 'dream' BX thread, not the 'realistic' BX thread.
Oh ok then - vertical C pillar on the estate so that it doesn't have the usual look of a lump of metalwork stuck on the back of a saloon or hatchback. Bodyshell to be 5" wider and possibly a bit longer as well.

Excellent :D it's quite a surprising difference isn't it.
