I've known Malcolm Lockwood for several years now and in that time he's gone from running BXs,C15s through to Berlingos, Xantias and even XMs.
His current fleet consists of a couple of C15s and 3 BXs. One of these is now coming up on 400,000 miles.
Bearing in mind these vehicles are heavily used for delivering parts all over the country. It stands as a testament to the BX that they continue where other (better ) vehicles have failed.
Me too !
In thirteen years she never once broke down on a journey, although I couldn't get her started from cold a couple of times, but I eventually found the cause of that and she has been perfect ever since !

I have broken down in a BX, but only a petrol one with XU engine: the ignition modules have a habit of suddenly giving up the ghost. Otherwise, I can't think of any incident in a diesel that wasn't my own stupid fault.
Back on two wheels and pedal power for the moment.
The only breakdowns i have had where i cannot get the car home on its own are 1 burst Pipe ( pump to FD ) one exploded rear suspension cylinder on my parents drive ( couldnt of happened in a better place ) a Seized hydraulic pump on the A1M and a failed clutch unit.

I had a bust rear cylinder on't GSA once. Driving along... the STOP light comes on even though I'd filled up that morning (Had a leak already). Oh, that's odd. Then I hit traffic and started getting a sinking feeling. Oh help.
Pulled off the road into a conveniently-placed autofactor's carpark. Bought LHM, put it in the tank. It was promptly disgorged and appeared in a large spreading puddle under the car, which eventually sank down completely. Not good. Had to call out AA and order a flatbed truck. Oh the ignominy of it.
If only I'd known that if I'd jacked up the car to intermediate height, it would have held all its fluid and I could have driven it home...
Only twice did the old Meteor let me down: once because of an auto-choke problem (probably brought on by impending headgasket failure), and another time when the starter motor packed in on the drive. I had "Home Start" and nice Mr AA man went and got a new one from an autofactor and changed it for me in the pouring rain!!
