Divorce territory

Post by toddao »

THIS has appeared on ebay and (un)fortunately it's in the next village. An unmolested black ph.1 16v with A/C and Cat - which though not desirable in Uk here in Germany means the car can actually be taxed for a relatively reasonable sum. I'm going to go and see it and report back. The wife is warming up the rolling pin

oooh! that is giving me the serious horn! You're a man Todd, you can take a warmed rolling pin, take one for the team and get it bought! Looks lovely!
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Thanks for egging me on chaps! I'm going to look at it tomorrow..

It's been in the same family since new and for the last few years has been used as an occasional shopping and runabout car by the grandmother of the seller! I've never seen it around but it apparently wasn't used much recently.

Boot floor rusted through, front inner wings, A/C of course doesn't do anything. It's always been Citroen maintained and was re-piped last year on a sort of a back-hander deal with a Citroen apprentice.

It's stuck in 'high' according to the seller, won't go down. Better than being in 'low' I suppose, at least can be put onto a trailer. I'll check it all out tomorrow and report back.

I've just come back from looking at it..

The paint is quite flat in places, with white patches on the roof - no sunroof, never seen this on a 16v. It was an ex-demonstration model bought by the seller's father in 1990 from the local Citroen dealership 'Göhm' where I buy some parts.

Original clutch unbelievably at 180000km/112000miles which shows that it was never really driven in anger. But now needs a new one along with rear arm bearings, also original items. Rust in boot quite advanced and also in front inner wings.

Interior is immaculate. Does actually go up and down as intended but is rock hard - could this be a total cactus'd accumulator?

Price stands at €301 at the moment, just got to hope it doesn't go too high as I think considering all its issues, it's not really worth much more than this.. but it is a 16v and it is right next door. Let's wait and see.

Fairly straight forward issues to resolve, but if the price drifts north - agreed - it doesn't really justify the hassle, time, effort and money involved to get things sorted. Oh well, if you don't buy it, look at it this way; you avoid a week in traction at the local infirmary and I assume hospital food in Germany is as crap as it is here!? Win win situation 8) :D

I always bid in the last second, just so there's no chance for return bids. I actually thought the price would be a bit higher so I was quite pleased when it only went up €1. This must be the the absolute bottoming out of valver prices, they can't really go lower can they? I think because it was located down here in the deep south of Germany that it was just too far out for people to travel. Also we underestimate how intimidating/uninteresting these cars are to the general punter, especially without TÜV: 'it's got that funny air-powered suspension.'

It's a local car and will stay within the same hood it's inhabited since 1989, though I can't see it being on the road for a while. The catalyser must almost be the first fitted to a 16v, it was registered in Jan '89 - I don't think I've ever seen a phase 1 16v with a cat though I can't find out any information. In the Uk cats weren't fitted until 1991 or something. Does anyone in the club actually have a BX with a cat at all? Apart from in the colonies?

The wife took it reasonably well, she realises it's a lost cause now! The wrecker TRD has to be broken up and carted away to make space for black beauty - a suitably ratty ( though well looked after) companion for the red rat valver.

I don't know too much about cats on BX's, but i do know my dads 1988 cx had a cat fitted, that was however in switzerland, so i wouldn't be surprised at all if germany was only a year behind at most behind introducing cats on cars :(

Will you be bringing it - or indeed any BX - to the ICCCR Todd?
