Leaking too much LHM?

Post by Willy »

Is this usual? It's always been a bit "damp" around the pressure regulator but when I looked under earlier I was like ZOMG GREEN EVERYWHERE! Despite this I have never had to add any more LHM to the tank - the disc's been just above the "max" reading and the dashboard light has never come on.

Most commonly this is caused by the two unions on top of the FDV working loose. Access is tricky but worth checking if they need nipping up.
I have zero patience for your tedium.

thats pretty common, as said above, check the unions, but to be honest, my valver is much the same, and I just dont care enough to do anything about it! Even my tame MoT tester says "they ALL do that mate"..

Mine looks like that too - I've nipped up the unions as best I can and replaced the hose clips with new, bt it still weeps a bit. I give it a wipe over every now and then so I can see if there's any new and obvious leak, otherwise I don't let it trouble me.

The black cyndircal plastic housing can also leak where it mates to the metal block that its attached to. There are 2 bolts that hold it on, be careful that you don't damage them if you try to remove them. Inside is a v-powerful spring & some other gubbins that i can't exactly remember, so if you do decide to undo this make sure you don't let it poing out as you'll lose all the bits you need to put it back together. The mating surface will need a good clean along with the internals of the housing, there was a fair amount of crap in the bottom, its another deadstop. Also worth having someone to help you re-allign it up whilst pushing against the spring so that someone else can tighten up those 2 bolts. To re-seal it, i think some of that waterproof blue paste stuff was used, i forget the name of it, & mine hasn't leaked since.

Also... would this be an MOT failure? I read on another forum of somebody getting failed for just a speck of fluid - probably rain to be fair - on their sump.

Its down to how Anal the MOT man is, normally a small oil weep is an advisoriy. If its pissing out though it would fail.

Pre mot just clean & dry the area, that way it can't fail unless it starts dripping whilst being tested.

to fail, IIRC it must leave a puddle a certain size on the floor within a certain time, although how large and how long I forget..

Word on whoever suggested tightening the pipe unions, seems to have done the trick :)
