Post by Mothman »

Been down to see Malcolm this am and found this outside his workshop.
Its the only BX MK1 diesel automatic known to the CCC in the country.
Has 65 k on the clock. needs a little fettling but it will be up for sale soon.

Towbar. What an optimist! I really like that. Wonder if the owner fancies a swap for a dreadful but equally rare Mk1 estate in the same colour...

Hmm, from the impression/message I got he was going to keep it due to its rarity as it was free to a good home.... :?

So is it coming up for sale? Love the colour and I've got some wind deflectors ready to go on!

I got an email from the previous owner asking if I could find a new home for it. It was free to somoene who would save it etc. It may be a misunderstanding though, its now Malcolms car to do so as he wishes but I did get the feeling it would be a "keeper".

As long as it's in good hands that's all that matters. Still, would be nice to own it though.

Aye. Couldn't be in much better hands really. If Malcolm wants to fettle it back to full health and flog it in then fair play.

I agree Ian,

when fettled and sold it will still be in good hands, and well looked after too.

I hope whoever gets it keeps us all informed.

So scratch... after reading/reminding myself (also taking into consideration), Philip's 'Post-Challenge austerity' comment (if indeed it was going free ) to a good home/enthusiast why did/would Philip back out (Unless it was the 'plus other requirements' ) ?

I understand the car is in excellent order but does need some recomissioning, but Phil had too much on his plate with holidays and other commitments so stood down, where upon Malcolm expressed and interest. The main thing is the old girl lives to fight another day and a Mk1 is back on the road.

I hope if it does get sold on it is to a enthusiast and stays within the club.

I know all too well that a 'free' car is never 'free!' Especially one that's been off the road for a while. These things need collecting, then fettling (which might or might not cost very much - it's an unknown).

I hope we haven't returned to the 'witch-hunt' tendencies that have mired this place before.

Im the last person to do that, as Ive had enough of that poked at me, I was chuffed that it had gone to a club member, and as I said my understanding is that it was a "keeper for best".

Depends what they were towing - a mate of mine had a N/A diesel auto ZX that would happily (if slowly up hills) tow all sorts including a caravan and a loaded car transporter trailer
