Best way to repair very small dent?

Post by merlyn »

My son  has just opened the car door against a pillar and has caused a small dent  just below the trim on the passenger door where the panel changes contour and there is a slight edge/fold to it (hope that makes sense). I was wondering about using one of the plunger type things to pull it out but not sure if that would be successful with the panel not being flat at that point. Can anybody advise? It really is a very small dent but on an otherwise dent-free car it is annoying.

Hmm if its on the fold then the only way to get that out is to have it filled/painted, dentless paint removal is fine on a flat panel but not so good on a curve, you could try knocking it out from behind but I guess it depends if you could live with it.....being used as a family hack its going to happen.

If you've never done any dent pulling, you might make it worse, just call in a professional & they should hopefully be able to sort it. If its too sharp a dint to pull out, filler & paint is the only way, which might work out rather expensive :(

The only method that I know of is: Hide it with a bigger dent!
I have zero patience for your tedium.

If you go commercial you can get perfection but the biggest snag is the GBP 100 plus for a litre of paint....

Sounds like I am best leaving well alone then, it really is very small and very shallow, wouldn't even need a teaspoon of filler. It's just really disappointing that it has happened.

You could try the heat and ice spray method, it'll cost not much to try.

That's not by the way compressed air he's using it's this stuff, obtainable from any plumbing supplier:

I wondered about that having found a video of it on line at the weekend, I did wonder what he was using, thanks for the info. The only thing is with it being on a part of the car where it isn't flat I'm not sure it would be successful. Typically it is just along a fold in the metal.

I put a slight crease in the wing of the Bx, right where the fold line along the panel is.

Cost me about £40 to get the local dent man to tease it out, after he was done you would never have known.

I'll have a chat with you at Coventry. In this weather I can live with it because you can't really tell in all the rain! When clean and dry it spoils it a bit, but there are more important things to spend money and time on I guess.
