4x4 driveshaft
My 4x4 has a large amount of movement in the nsf inner cv joint. Not from the joint itself but where the driveshaft passes through the gearbox into the transfer box. I have removed the driveshaft and to me it looks like there is something missing/worn away, some sort of seal or nylon bush. There are no symptoms I only found this by accident when tinkering. Does anyone know what is missing or even better a part number.

Re: 4x4 driveshaft
It's been a long time since I did anything on a 4x4, but I thought it passed through a bearing rather than a nylon bush or the like.

Re: 4x4 driveshaft
It passes through the the hollow output shaft in the gearbox but at the moment there is nothing between the driveshaft and the hollow shaft. As well as movement the weather can also get in although surprisingly there is no oil coming out.

Re: 4x4 driveshaft
The inner cv doesn't contact the gearbox shaft so the end of the driveshaft itself must be up against the planet wheel shaft in the transfer box.

Re: 4x4 driveshaft
I have now fitted a phosphor bronze bush to the driveshaft, the car does feel slightly better now although i didn't notice anything wrong before. This is only a stopgap because it still needs a seal of some sort to stop water entering.

Re: 4x4 driveshaft
here is what it lists on service citroen with that part No.
3248 04
NFP
DRIV SHAFT BUSH
LEFT
27 X 31,5 8
and here is price and part No. even though its NFP you might be able to find one with a googly search on the No.
Part Number Description Quantity Price excl. VAT Price incl. VAT Total incl. VAT Selection
0000324804 DRIV SHAFT BUSH 9.37 GBP 11.24 GBP 11.24 GBP
i also think it should be a bearing as they call the intermediate bearing on the stranded BX a bush,
i think the bush you fitted might wear the casing or shaft away!!!!!! if it is meant to be a bearing

Re: 4x4 driveshaft
Thanks Malcolm i was't aware that citroen called a bearing a bush, the original must be a sealed needle roller i guess. I will try and track one down in that size. The bronze bush shouldn't cause any problems because i think the two shafts rotate at the same speed except when cornering. The car has actually done 4000 miles with me over a total of 10 months with no bearing at all. I recently changed all of the fluids and the transfer box oil didn't seem particularly dirty.
