Thefts at ICCCR

Post by citronut »

copied from the CCC forum

Unfortunately a few members were affected by thefts at the ICCCR.
At least 2 Semi-auto DS's had their hydraulic rubber covers taken on Sunday, but the following list is from Ewan's "jubilee" DS that was broken into on Sunday night after the Ukelele's

Ewan wrote:Items stolen from my car on Sunday 12th August 2012. Distinctive Burgundy
Citroen DS 20 with a black bungie cord holding the boot on slightly disguising
the numberplate.
...

Theft was from the car on the main route from the main arena to campsite
(suggested by others as between 8-9 PM in the first part of the Ukulele
Orchestra). This is when people noticed their RHD DS's were targeted for gear
change rubber dashboard covers . Apparently people were asking stall holders for
these but they are no longer made.
Another visitor went (I think to Tom below but not sure) to buy a second pair of
front headrests as his first set were stolen on site. I am not aware of other
thefts apart from items in the hall by opportunists.
Doors were forced with a DS/ same era key and no damage was caused to the car. I
am very careful to hide things and fully lock my car at all times.
...
- I am so gutted I feel totally sick inside that a
fellow enthusiast would do this to another DS fan.I am still in total disbelief
this has happened!
All in all it was a massive haul, a few people and would have taken another car
to be right next to mine to be loaded and not much space for other things to be
in there. I.e maybe a DS Safari or other larger vehicle?
I have forgotten things and will only start to realise as I can not find them
any more when looking for them.

It's a sad fact that this sort of thing is all too common - the last 2 2CV meetings I went to had tents raided - I'd have been a victim myself at Salbris if I wasn't such a light sleeper.

I've also known components removed from vehicles at local stem shows, sometimes actually immobilising the vehicle in the process, and bits stolen at veteran cycle meetings of a type that would only have been taken by one of the participants.

We can only hope in this case that some of these parts surface somewhere, although I suspect this will not be the case

Aye. It's certainly sad news. Salbris sounded pretty horrific. People were having stuff stolen from their tents while they were asleep. Even if it was in the actual sleeping compartment with them! I think that was probably outsiders breaking into the camp looking for cash or stuff to sell on.

Look at the numbers at Harrogate though. Probably about 3000 people. Sadly chances are that one or two of them are going to be unpleasant. Even in Citroen circles.

We've had them in the old bike circles with a group of less than 200, so yes, there'll be a few around.

Although there is something of a humour aspect here, stealing "difficult to source car parts" not ipodphones, this doesn't really surprise me. Some people are dickheads, classic car enthusiasts or kids on the bus, am sure everybody here has had or will have a negative experience with a car seller, or somebody selling defective kit, for instance. As I'm sure JayW will discover at the weekend...

Sadly, in every sphere of any demographic group, there will always be a minority of people that are bastards.
Personally, I'd shoot them in the face.
Hopefully these parts can be recovered, but in all honesty, they were most likely taken by someone that wants them for their own car, and whilst I dont really believe in Karma, with any luck the thieving scum will either meet an unpleasant end, or have some of their stuff nicked.
I had a valver stolen from the farm, almost cerainly by someone that knew exactly what it was, and I've had bus bits nicked, and whilst so far I've never had enough proof to say for sure who it was, if I was ever totally certain, the shotgun would be coming out.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Indeed, and even that doesn't fully encapsulate it really. I just don't understand how anyone could take any pleasure in possessing something that was acquired at the cost of someone else's misery. I really feel for that poor DS guy: it's no small misery we're talking about is it?
