rear hatch in green needed...

Post by themildbunch »

Seems rear hatch problems are common this week!

My shed's one had been fixed at some point with lashings of epoxy and finally let go today:

Anyone got one for a saloon in green?

 That's the strut mounting isn't it? I had the joint give way on a Montego estate once and the strut went through the window, so it may have been a lucky escape there!

Hi Graeme

It may well be if I can't repair it any better than it was before... Better ad it to my shopping list with you!

Oh, that would be great - the broken section of the hatch was lost somewhere near Asda Bedminster by my son so a replacement hatch is the only option now!

I would have thought some sort of repair would have been easier, a new screwed on bracket out of a little angle aluminium or similar? It would be a shame to write off a tail gate because of one little bracket?

When are you available, as changing the hatch is a simple, but time consuming job... takes ages to thread all the wires through!
I have tuesday or wednesday daytime or evening free if that suits...

I'm not sure if this is easier - I know it would seem a bit much to dump this hatch - but I'll hopefully keep it if I do replace it... I remember replacing one years ago on a GTi after someone stuck a broom through the glass! Pretty easy but was time consuming.

I'm not sure screwing into the plastic / fibreglass of the hatch is made of is going to be that strong. The catch on my estate hatch has threaded steel female things set into the material rather than bolts directly into the plastic, even then they are stressed parts that often crack over time, especially when the bolts get a little loose.

pretty sure I saw this car on the Cumberland Basin being driven by I assume Mrs. Mildbunch back end of last week maybe? Looked nice, thought it was my Dad for a moment, so apols if Mrs. Mildbunch mentioned a mad bus driver flashing lights and waving like a loon!
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...
