I love French boot sales....

Post by KevR »

...and autojumbles.

Biggest one of the year here yesterday, at St Pierre Sur Dives, near Caen (I can recommened it as a good weekend trip for next year - beautiful location, hundreds of tasty cars, loads of stuff to be had for cars, bikes and bicycles). In the first ten minutes I picked up a small octopus for my TD, a pair of NOS front caliper repair kits, a pair of rear arm bearing kits, and a new aluminium window channel, total cost 25 euros... 8)
Kicking myself for not buying the NOS rear suspension cylinder, but wasn't sure if it was saloon or estate - should have had it anyway, along with the NOS rear brake calipers. Last year at the same event there was very little BX stuff - looks like dealers are starting to clear out stock so it's trickling down to the autjumblers.
Icing on the cake was dropping in on a normal village boot sale on the way home and walking out with a stack of NOS 2CV bits including bumper brackets, ignition switches, locksets, half a dozen handbrake cables, wheel bearing fitting kits, exhaust clamps and trim bits. All for another 2o euros... :D

…and you just HAD to tell us all about it to rub it in! Tempting to plan a romantic weekend away, and 'accidentally' stumble across the autojumble!

Or we give you a shopping list ;)

My work here is done...

How about organising a club trip over here next year - they wouldn't let me in to the 'classic' car parking in the BX this year, but if we turned up in convoy....

2CV ignition switches?! Gah! I've just bought a remanufactured one for mine. £100! And it 'feels' horrible.

Mostly for older ones with separate ignition switch and red starter button (or cable pull starter) - same as H van, so pretty simple stuff really. It did include one or two of the actual switch parts for the later steering lock type, but not the lock/barrel/key part.

And yes, I usually buy up anything relevant to 2CVs, BXs or H vans and then move the surplus on- must have been having a moment of madness yesterday with that suspension cylinder, especially given the prices of the other stuff I had from that stall....
