Well I hope a knight in shining armor comes galloping over the hill to save her, but if you start stripping her seriously let me know, as I may want to cut some sections out to use on Timex.

Ah, there's an idea. Don't think the windscreen pillars themselves are too bad (the rot is at the base)...

The windscreen is only a couple of years old as well.

Bits of car have arrived today, so hopefully I'll have it all back together again soon. Strut returns and a new handbrake cable and all should be well. In the short term. I'll still have the steering clonk to sort out.

Will be getting the winter tyres put on a spare set of steelies today as well, so the alloys can come off ready for sale.

In other news, how do you get the speedo binnacle out? It has a number of duff bulbs but I've never tried removing one before on a BX.

You didn't catch my quick explanation at the tech weekend then?

Nope. Missed that! Probably too busy drinking tea.

Thanks Mat. Doesn't sound too bad, though the speedo cable has just started ticking. Grrrr!

I know that because she's up and running again. Recon caliper fitted, new handbrake cable and new strut return pipes. I managed to get one of the clips back on, but the other one broke, so cable tie it is.

I changed some of my instrument binnacle bulbs the other day, I purchased these bulbs off ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120889964005? ... 1497.l2648" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; which were alot cheaper than my local car shop as they were charging £3.50 for two. Anyway I had six bulbs out in total including a couple behind a removable cover (with 3 4.5mm bolts) which were for the oil level gauge and some of the speedo so make sure you check them all. I used the stop light hole to test each bulb by flicking the ignition on to click one. Hope this helps.

Nice tip. Thanks. I've got a spare binnacle so was planning on pinching a few bulbs from that, but I guess buying new is probably more sensible or I'll end up doing it again at some point!

For the sake of a couple of quid it's probably worth buying some new ones, I have had some duff new bulbs before saying that though, none from the above batch luckily.

Hmm... - must look at the binnacle on Timex again. I changed all the bulbs I could find, there's still no light for the fuel gauge, odo or trip. Never thought there could be further dismantling needed

You'll have half an hour on the Tunnel crossing, a bit of time to kill...

The worst bit of the job in my eyes was reaching up through the panel near the drivers right knee to undo the nut on the right as it rips your arm/hand to shreads. Looks like i've been in a fight with a cat. :P

I look forward to it...

Have been out and about in the TXD today. I really do like it, though the hideous C-post blind spots are something I'd forgotten! The estate definitely wins for rear visibility. Off to collect the winter tyres in a bit and I'll try and take more photos of the car while I'm out.

Quick query. The heater tap can be moved by hand, but not by the control. It just twangs back to where it was. Is the tap too stiff? It doesn't really feel it. Oh well. It's one step better than the TGD, in which the tap is entirely seized! I can adjust the temperature, just not on the move...

This is a gallery after all, so roll on the pics!

I do like the colour. Quartz Grey.

Unlike an estate, you can't quite fit four wheels with tyres in the boot and keep the parcel shelf in place. Winter tyres are ready to fit!

Easy access? What's that?

Looks rather nice Ian, quite 'sporting' :) I think those Peugeot wheels quite suit it, especially in that silver colour. I do remember when I had my TGE that on comparison with my astra the engine bay was fairly wide, but not very deep at all! Saying that there was plenty of space with the TU 14 lump in there - but not so much with a TD I see.
