IIRC the only difference was the thread size - M8 x 1.25mm for the standard hoses and M9 x 1.25mm for the ABS ones. All he did was drill out the remains of the M8 thread, and retap with M9. Any remnants of thread remaining don't matter too much as the pitch is the same.

Easy Peasy, but who has a M9 tap in their tool box?..

Easy cheap option:

But that's the original problem - Motoquip VBH832 in the eBay advert (and hoses from other manufacturers) are listed as being for ABS, but actually have an M8 thread! Which is why I was rather dubious before purchasing the ones I bought.

Cheers Mat, i was going to look to getting some braided stainless made up, but i wanted to get a proper ABS pipe to model it off. Funny enough of the pipes i have in stock, there all M8. Irritating as at least one was sold to me as ABS compatible!!

PS i have an M9x1.25 DIE, but not a tap. Not the foggiest why i have it, but i did buy it for something specific.

IIRC he also modified the angle of a drill bit to cut the correct angle seat inside the fitting :?:
I have zero patience for your tedium.

I can dig one of the old hoses out the bin if you like? Swap you for something?

Jay, I think you're (kind of) right! Now you mention it, he did modify the drill bit, but I think that was to maintain the existing angle of the seal seat if/when the drill bit should contact it.

Obvious question time, are Xantia ABS hoses compatible? Probably not the ones for the Girling brakes but perhaps the Bendix ones are? I wonder if it might be quicker to fit the Xantia brakes to mine and have done!

Dear All.
I just wanted to thank everyone for their kind assistance, in helping
me to locate some front ABS flexi-hoses, :D My ever so kind
chaps at my not so local factors can supply me with some, no problem,
aswell as two handbrake cables, and some rear tailgate struts, as my
tailgate doesn,t seem to lift very much at all, if I press the button, the
tailgate stays where it is  no lift on them at all, I have to really lift
the tailgate up to get it started, before it starts to raise itself, but it is
quite a struggle for me.
Many Thanks Again.

Memory is crap nowadays but isn't there a difference in the diameter of the steel pipe as well, something like 4mm.?? As opposed to 3mm.

Yup, 4.5mm instead of 3.5mm. I guess the larger diameter needed was down to requiring a faster response when the ABS system modulates the pressure.

Just been to ' Brakes International ' in Rochdale , Lancs .. Tel no 01706 666999 for a new caliper and asked for a front brake hose also.

' Does it have abs as I have TWO hoses in stock but none of the others '
They are on ebay but can't remember the trading title.
