Sophie's on the road again.

Post by Mothman »

Well, at last, ive got Sophie on the road again, managed to find some special loctite waterproof and heatproof glue thats done the job on the heater matrix. With a bit of fettling, the drips have ceased and water loss stoped so fingers crossed. Missed driving her this last few months but hopefully back to normal now. :D
Havnt put her all back together yet, will do that when ime certain all is well around the heater matrix are but certainly will be driving her.
Quite a shock though, getting back into her straight from the TZD [just fitted a K&N airfilter] as she is slow by comparison. :D :D :D :D

Both really nice cars Andy. After driving my 17TGD most of the time the TZD seems like a rocket by comparison. I wouldn't say one car was 'better' than the other they're just very different. As far as your Mk.1 goes I'd be happy to forego a bit of performance for the pleasure of that wacky early interior - lovely! 8)

I know what you are saying Paul. Two completely different motors, both with different characters yet both a pleasure to drive.
Here's the romaninic blue one. not ready yet.

She is a diesel 19 Automatic, the only known MK 1 survivor known at present.

Mine has only one external rear-view mirror , no external blinkers , no fog lights …and the wiper is on the other side

As ime sure you noticed, Sophie's wiper is on the 'other' side as she is an LHD model originaly sold in Italy, Rome to be precise. External side indicators were obvioulsly needed for UK models but probably for Italian models too.
Sophie came off the production line on 16/10/85 and she still is a great drive and ime damned glad to have hopefuly sorted the heater/water loss problem. Drove her hard tonight to prove a point and she coped admirably. A good solid motor.
