New Job!

Post by saintjamesy89 »

Hello all, just thought i'd report that I will be starting work at Eurocarparts tomorrow morning, on a zero hour contract (can do as many or little hours as I want, but will do full time). We get parts at cost plus 17.5%, my step dad is the boss of the delivery team and I have finished domino's as of tonight but will still do a weekend day at the garden centre as eurocarparts only pay minimum wage.

So, I can get stuff sorted out now, house stuff, astra stuff (can walk to work so will do the work it needs, and can keep it shiny!), GT stuff (with very cheap car parts) and maybe even have a social and/or other life! It's all rather daunting, this having a life business and I feel oddly guilty that I won't be working 70+ hour weeks anymore but can't figure out why??
I'm not a Saint, or a James, but a Tom Saint-James!

I used to work for ECP, but I was a phone-monkey rather than a delivery driver.

The only downside to driving is the wage (as you say, it's minimum) because the job itself is piss easy!

Great news that you've got a job, once you're on the ladder you can still keep looking for something better or in the field that you want to do, but its always nice to have a wage coming in which reduces stress levels :)

Great to hear you have found work in these difficult financial times, ime sure Tom, its a great weight off your mind and hopefully provide some funds to get the GT up and running and then you can cruise about in her for a bit.
I really do like the Mk 1s, but i feel my deal with my 3rd one may be going sour as i cant contact the guy any more.
Anyway, well done and good luck.

Well, last shift at Domino's now finished - thank fuck for that! They did have to keep me until this late though didn't they... Up in 6 hours to go to new job, but i'll order a new water pump and cambelt tensioner kit for the GT.

Might not get any GT work done this week, but so I actually get some bits done and don't fill my evenings up with other boring crap i'm going to schedule a 'car day' into the week, purely for GT tinkering! I really can't wait to cruise around in her and show her off, but i can't see that she'll be on the road until next spring when the shows start again - can't really justify MOT and taxing her to just drive about in at winter time.

Thanks for all the comments chaps, it'll be so nice to work normal hours again, and I can sub my wages with a weekend day at the garden centre if needs be. I'm still looking for a *proper job too though.

*proper: in this case a well paid job, in or around the subject of my degree that I will enjoy and be interested in, of course with minimal hours paying this fab wage

Or just say you're ill or sad and go on benefits (because everyone in work is 100% fit and healthy). It's what every prick I used to deliver parcels to when I was temping as a multi-drop driver did. Used to wind me up, but now I just don't think about it.
