My GTi

Post by ghaddon1701 »

Here is my recently acquired GTi from Max after its first wash. Apologies for the locale. The car park of the warehouse where I work in sunny Sparkbrook in Birmingham. Hopefully I will be able to post some pictures of more picturesque places soon.
I have just about managed to get used to the fuel consumption in comparison to a TD although it is not to bad. I have averaged 35mpg so far. But it goes a hell of a lot better :D
It is being treated to a new cambelt kit and auxillary belts over the weekend. The question I am currently asking myself is will it look better with 16v alloys? Or GTi optional extra alloys in all silver?

Regards Graham

That is a VERY nice looking car! 8) I thought as far as alloys for an 8valve GTi go there's only the choice of speedlines, speedlines or . . . speedlines?

Silver or dark grey with the silver edging? I have a set of 16v alloys but the lacquer on the silver edging has delaminated in places and could do with been refurbished. Or I can get them powder coated all silver. That would be the easiest option but I think I prefer the 16v type. Decisions decisions.

Silver - no question. The anthracite ones can look nice, the silver ones always look nice! 8)

I had silver speedlines on my 8valve Gti, & they suited it perfectly as the car was the exact same colour as yours :)

With a silver car I'm inclined to favour the 16v style... :)

I do like those original dish type trims too, but IME they rattle like hell.

Not just you - I'd have a set of steel rims with trims over alloys any day.

The key I have found with the wheel trims is to cable tie the trim itself and the plastic ring together. After they have been taken off a few times the trim and the ring tend to part company very easily. Maybe this was the reason why there are so few left with those trims, they have all been lost?

I'd favour the original style wheel trims as well, IMHO.
