See ,I wanted a carb model because I didn't want all the fuss of Ecu's and crap like that, fine when everythings working as it should but a pita when they go wrong, my 406 has decided that once its warmed up it dosent want to idle evenly, revs go up and down ,sometimes it cuts out completely, changed the plugs and stepper valve also replaced the cat but its still doing it, this has been San awful three months for us with cars and it dosent look like its over yet...

i had a similar prob years ago on a pug 309 1,6 petrol was only doin 20 mpg and always smelt petroly and smelt like it was running rich, the plugs were removed and very sooty sign of rich mixture, this was a solex carb with auto choke, what is was causing the rich mixture was the waxstat that operates the auto choke was seized hence the car running on choke all the time even when warm, mite be worth checking this out, a good spray with wd40 solved the prob, new plugs and air filter jobs a gooden worth checking all breather hoses as well as these can crust up on the inside if yr engine has been running rich for some time

Dont forget Adam, it has a K+N panel filter so dont go changing it, It should last longer than the car, the plugs always looked sooty to me so I think Rutter could be onto something,
I replaced the oil breather thingy under the oil filler cap with a brand new one earlier this year so that should be ok,
Oh and have you discovered the led illuminated window switches yet :D

I have just spoke to the local citroen breakers in billericay

He has suggested a new carb

I will pop down Monday for him to have a look

Do you think a new carb will help revs and mpg ?

If he's got a weber that will fit it may be a better option than another solex,I would have thought that a second hand carb will only be better if its done less mileage that's why I never fitted the spare one that was in the boot ad I didn't know how much use it had had, another option would be to get the spare carb rebuilt

from what i can remember it looks like a solenoid which is fixed to the side of the carb and the plunger should move as the engine warms up (slowly opening the choke) i seem to remember 2 small water pipes connecting to the housing. it was a solex carb auto choke type 32/32?? but im goin back a few years.....mine was semi seized and sticking, a good spray with release agent wd40 or silicone lube done the trick with mine, im not sure how many different types of carb were fitted to the bx 16 so u may find some variants, good luck
