I may have bought a BX

Post by saintjamesy89 »

Well I decided that I needed a diesel, and would like a BX so I bought this one! My dad can weld, and the rust pictured looks superficial, for the money (based on last few adverts on here and ebay) sounded like a good deal! Will have to say buy buy to the astra now, it's officially advertised...

Doesn't look too bad Tom. Good luck with it, will make a good candidate for the Ecosse challenge.

Thanks Mark, i'd still like to do the challenge in the GT, and still aim to have it roadworthy and tested at least as early as march for a holiday we have booked, we're Lyon to visit a friend and go exploring/walking/camping - holiday stuff generally!

I know i've been on about wanting a 14 (still do) but that will have to wait until I can afford to run 2 cars as the current commute isn't very economical, my astra that used to do 45-54mpg is currently doing 36 :o so a single choke 14 is going to be worse I think.

Oh, and Sandre darling, please don't hit me with a fish!

Well done Tom :D I had an eye on this one as a stop-gap while I'm getting the gearbox fixed on the red one. I wasn't bidding though - maybe on the blue one late Saturday evening.

Thanks Andy, a bit of poke is always a bonus :) And I certainly have NO intention of forgetting about the GT, really can't wait to have it roadworthy!

Seems reasonable for the money. Hope the rot isn't too bad once you start digging, but then you've always got the option of using it as-is until November, by which time hopefully the GT will be ready.

I like the TXD spec.

My thoughts precisely Ian!

To be honest I liked the looks and potential economy of the RD better, but was put off by the welding that needed doing above the fuel tank - something my dad wasn't up for doing, as any welding he can do (at work, were all the kit is) must be done on a weekend, and finished by Sunday afternoon so the bosses don't get upset when they find a BX in bits in the workshop on Monday morning :) He's more than happy to do little bits though.

It comes across as an honest description, and as you say, not a bad price given recent sales. Perhaps your dad can teach you to weld so you can do some of it yourself?

Did I say i'm picking it up tomorrow? It'll be dark, which isn't ideal but it's bought so never mind. Looking forward to getting it! I'm surprised too, that it's roughly only £100 more expensive to insure than the astra (that cost £550 to insure).

Turbo diesel insurance was cheap for a time. The Peugeot 306 DTurbo was always in a low group.

Based on my TXD collection experience, I'd recommend taking a fresh wiper blade with you. So often cars have knackered wiper blades and it'll be even worse if it's raining! I meant to take a bottle of LHM too but ended up having to try and ignore the STOP light every time I went around a bend. I should have taken a bottle with me!

I plan on taking some LHM :) I also hate worn blades, what else could irritate you that muych every time it moved infront of your face?

I quote the description "If the winning bidder doesn't agree when they see the car, they're welcome to walk away. " - not many sellers take that atticute. It looks a nice car all in and I wish you luck with it, I may be interested in buying it off you if you end up selling it when you put your GT on the road?

The GT will be an occasional, not a daily drive unfortunately! So i'll keep this for a while I expect. Had a good look around it at lunch today, apart from the few rust bubbles, and the drivers door hinge mount (which is quite holy, and the whole section moves when you open the door enthusiastically!) it is remarkably tidy for £300.

But, hey, you never know what'll happen!
