When changing my gearbox recently, due to the original 176,000mile one's diff self-destructing, I noticed that the exhaust manifold has 2 outlets!, 1 leads to the down pipe, as expected, the other is blanked off with a plate,... Can anyone tell me what the blanked-off exit is for?,.... Is it some sort of fitting flange for fitting a turbo to, if the manifold is used on both turbo and n/a engines?
mechanically-minded, technically-gifted,....self-confessed fix-it yourself fan....

Some of the na' s were fitted with a cannister, i think to collect soot under certain conditions? although someone may correct me on its purpose.
