Rubber seal - mice attack!

Hey guys, dreaded mice have got at the car in the garage. They've ate at the hardbrake release button, and worse, the top of the resevoir = citroen blood leak!
Not sure exactly where they're getting in but no signs of droppings in the car so hopefully they haven't been in there long.
One suspect place might be the rubber seal for the height adjuster lever, its torn (see pic).

Any ideas on replacing, would I have to get the whole centre console from behind gear lever unit back?
Any ideas on a temporary/semi-permanent fix?

As an aside, we've found the humane ones have to be checked very regularly, otherwise the mice get very stressed with being trapped and die a presumably slower death. Seemingly more than a few hours trapped is enough to finish them off, and even if discovered early they don't seem 100% with it.

The height lever rubber is bonded to the console, but I reckon a satisfactory replacement could be made out of stiff rubber sheeting. I can't see how they could have got in there though...

Yeah, a few traps were set, not sure how humane though! - not poison anyway, but nothing in them this morning.

Any ideas on other places that they could be getting into the car (assuming no extra age-related holes!)? In through engine bay at back of dashboard maybe?

every centre console ive had has the same wear on the lever arm gaiter, and it does normally look like a mouse has been at it, but in the 5odd cases ive seen, it just wear and not mice. i wouldnt panic too soon.

Yeah the wear on that rubber wasn't a mouse like you said but one definitely got at the handbrake button. The picture above is an earlier one and doesn't show the small damage to it. Nothing in any traps today, fingers crossed!

i've just this minute been told that peanut butter is a good way to detect if they're about, a small dollop and if its gone by the morning, ya've got mice

yes we use peanut butter or chocolate spread in the mousetraps in our sheds,
they have expensive tastes these rodents lol
