Mission Accomplished

Post by B-Hive »

Needing to drive to Brisbane Queensland the GT was in the frame for the task

No problems...a fresh set of rubber all round (returned to original spec alloys), 3000km and 6 days later I'm back home sans incident.

Not completely without eccentrics, the GT (on the return leg) decided that, at the same time the fuel gauge began to work to perfection, the odometer went utterly berserk..

....Sitting on 194000 approx ..next time i look down and I had done 694020.. This steadily climbed to the high 900 thousands before fully clocking itself back to some 95000km where it settled,, then a few noisy clicks and flicks of the speedo needle later, the once dependable trip meter fell asleep for about 80 percent of the time..Well there went my fuel consumption tests..

But what I can say was, that before the fuel gauge worked and the subsequent spectacular odometer.trip metre failure, whilst enduring outside temperatures of 41c and above the little GT sat on 120km/h for hour after hour and up and down the ranges and still returned on average 7.5l/100... at the same time passing locally built fords ("built for local conditions"), passed out on the road side with bonnet up,,

I also have to add that i was in convoy with a close friend on to outward leg to Brisbane, who was driving a TD C3...We had two way UHF radios and about 4 hours into the 15 hour trip he was bitterly complaining about the quality of the roads that was trashing his car....I just replied that I hadn't noticed really how bad the roads had been..he did not reply given that he recently relinquished his DS for the C3 and so no response was required!!! He understood..

She also did not use a drop of oil, LHM nor coolant..

Smug ? you bet =D>

It's nice when that happens eh? Really gives you confidence about your car. Can't wait to get my GT on the road so I can start enjoying it properly!

That odometer problem you decribed ironically happened to me on the BXGT I used to own back in the UK. I was driving up a steep hill not far from home when I went from 120,000 (thereabouts) up the 920,000 the dayof the MOT [-X 1 mile trip and 800,000 miles later. Great fuel consumption figures from that =D>

Sounds fun - I love a good road trip!

I had a similar odometer problem when selling my first bike. I'd advertised with with 20k miles, but someone was coming to buy it so I took it out for one last ride. It clocked up 30k miles just wheeling it down the garden path :( Fortunately the buyer believed me!
