There are a few 1985 BXs left, i have a couple of them but all C reg however yours is as rare as hen's teeth so i hope you can get her working again. The body number should tell us when she left the production line.

I would certainly like to have a look at her if thats ok, between Christmas and the New year so ile pm you shortly.

Hope you can sort the insurance side out too, however if she hasnt run for so long i suspect you will have a major job on your hands to get her up to MOT standard, let alone even starting her. Malcolm [Citronut] may be your best bet there, he is in St Leonards.
Mind you, if you are good at mechanics and can weld then you should be ok. Going to cost some dosh though. I was recently given a C reg RD and i think she is going to cost me a grand at least to get her back on the road, going to need a complete suspension pipe renewal plus many other bits etc.

Good luck with her though.

I'll echo the potential cost, having spend about £250 plus around a hundred hours of work just to get Timex through the last MOT - god knows what everything else will cost if I decide to do it all, but it's worth it because the chances of finding another are very, very small.

Thanks guys, and Anyones welcome to have a mosey and fiddle ;) hopefully it shouldn't be too bad mechanically, as the owners kids used to rag it round the fields 3 years ago, and what's a good way of removing a huge f-off dent in a roof, it's not really deep but, it covers nearly all the roof :s

I would remove the interior head lining, then push the dent out from underneath. Having seen the pics on Face ache, it don't look too bad... I hope you succeed with it.
The pipework that you were on about should be a very easy fix.

What are the symptoms? Failed spheres would give a hard ride (no springing) but wouldn't stop it rising.

That's right. Being a trainee mechanic, you'll learn that you can compress a gas, but you can't compress a liquid.
A sphere is filled with gas at a very high pressure.
As it degrades, the gas leaks away, and so the ride gets harder and harder, until it goes rock solid!
How do you test?
With the car running and at normal ride height, you should be able to push down on each corner of the car, and it will rebound once.
This is the same thing they do at an MOT test. If you can't push down, the sphere has failed.

What condition are the steel hydraulic pipes in? On early cars, the steel is not coated, and by now I guess will be a bit ripe!
Cupro-nickel pipe is the best replacement, and is much easier to work with than steel.
Get some new seals, and screw in ends from Pliedes, then if you know anyone with the correct flare tool, make your own pipes, it's very easy to do!

Dents. Start pushing the dents with the ball of your hand, then perhaps a small mallet and a block of soft wood.
Don't try to do too much at once, or it will look awful!

Thanks guys :)

Had a good day with the mk1 bx today, cleaned it thoroughly on the exterior except polish. as you can imagen as it's been in a barn since a year after I was born, plenty of owls will have been in the barn and left their mark! so despite the rain, the car was still filthy, just think of all the hidy holes on a bx! yup, every one of them had to be disloged and and scrubbed

the large dent in the roof has also been poped out with the help of my dads spine  and only leaving two shallow and small dents behind.

unfortunately, a mouse has lived in my bx for a while and the positive terminal strap has been bitten through and mangled, the low tension wires on the coil are missing and the king lead on the coil had been eater through. However, we put a charged battery on and fused the positive strap together and saw what worked and what didn't. The offside headlight has blown and the offside rear reg light has blown, other than that it all worked fine, lots of lights on the dash came on, the green digital clock came on and the orange revolving speedo lit up 8) 8) 8)

Hopefully, I can get this car to start tomorow and see what ive got... my self into

(i will try to post some pictures later on )

trouble with citroen wiring is there are bunch's of same colour's ( green, brown and some grey ), these colours dont mean a thing as they should have coloured markers on each wire, this is what tell you were each wire goes,
so if mees's have eaten the end with the colour indicators on it makes it a bit more difficult to sort out,

to determine which wire goes were on the coil just check for a live feed with the ignition switched on, this obviously goes to the terminal with a + next to it, the others go to the - terminal, except the one from the radio suppressor which goes to the +/love side of the coil,

There's one or two on eBay; they don't have to be an identical match to the crimped on original. As for re-using female spade connectors, surely you can buy new? They are only pence!
