Xantia HDi = £675 FC with Buisness cover for me and the wife (mine to carry patients the wife to carry children she is minding)
3 claims by me in last 5 years (2 non my fault with all costs recovered but Direct Line thieving Scumbags still class them as a claim) one of which was a total loss - the crappy Laguna (my fault )
2 claims by wife (both not her fault again all costs recovered) The most unfortunate one was 2 days after somone drove into the side of me, I was taking the car to the body shop when some silly b**t drove up the rear of me - that goes down a treat when shopping round for other insurance.

BX 1.9TXD = £275 TPF&T with NIG, same buisness cover as above - one total loss 3 years ago when one of my patinets stole the car and went for a joyride - b*****d, still I got my own back

No pentalties or points by either of us, both cars alarmed, both immobilised, both parked off the street under CCTV coverage.

Oh and dont talk to me about Alloys - £150 to fit a set the insurance company wanted - the bloody wheels only cost £25! And as for telling them about the Dragon Tuning Chip....

About £550 for TPFT on a trade policy. Anything up to (and incl.) 7.5 tonnes but no mini buses.
I may shop round next time though because I thought I`d mislaid my policy and wanted to tax a car I had a the time. "No problem sir, that`ll be £25".
You *£"^&nh what, I pay you enough already? Seemingly that`s to get it sent out within a couple of days, they could send at no charge but didn`t know when it would be.
I questioned why they could send one immediately for a charge or later for free but I got some bullshit politician`s answer.
Rather unsuprisingly I told them to go and *&^@ themselves and I`d have the free one. Never arrived. Luckily I found my original but what happens when you get pulled up and asked for a producer and can`t find it? Pay these b*st*rds £25 or get done by the police.

Who have you got the classic car cover with; and did they need photographs before agreeing on the value?

The policy is with Adrian Flux. To get the agreed value I had to provide 6 photographs and have a valuation carried out by an independent Citroen specialist. This was only needed on the first year the following years I have only needed to do a 'self assesment' although the photographs are required each year.

The value is based on me buying a replacement BX in average condition and bringing it up to the standard of my own car in the event of a total loss.

Thanks Richard; That seems quite a bit of hassle - photographs, Citroen valuations etc, but chimes in well with the widely held view that insurance companies / brokers are, how can I put it politely BXXXXXXS. When my daughter wrote off my newly re-piped near-mint TZD, the first offer was £25, which increased to £125.

I agree with your comments on insurance companies Gareth. The companies which I have dealt with in the past for Classic Insurance have treated me in a far superior manner than any 'quote me happy' type outfit have.

The insurance companies line on the specialist valuation is to make sure the vehicle is assigned the correct and fair value should the worst happen. This may be a hassle, but I am garunteed my full agreed value should the worst happen.
