I think you win Gary, that's soul destroying. I do hope you got the buggers who did it.

Hmm, damage early warning system? Sounds like a good system to me

Paul, I can just imagine the next line of that limerick, and had a good giggle. Come on, what rhymes really well with Venus?? Hehe.

Er . . . . nope, you've got me there. You'll have to help me out with that one??

I think the last line is something like, 'and he woke up with a vague sense of disappointment, the way you do when you've had that kind of a dream.' (maybe) :D

Mmmm. 'BX' and 'Junk' in the same sentence. Honestly! Sandre, we've tolerated this endless outpouring of Percy Filth and for quite long enough.

Three words; 'mouth', 'soap', 'wash' - you know the rest . . . get on with it! :D

Big day tomorrow. . . MOT! Last year it had no advisories and in the last 12 months I've had quite a few bits done like brakes, arm bearing, cam belt and most recently tyres. I'm keeping everything crossed that nothing major shows up and then I can hopefully afford to get some more bits done this coming year. :D

Good luck Jane. [-o< :) My MOT listed weeping struts as an advisory, at least it did, until I mentioned to the tester that the previous day I had poured plenty of oil into the top of the struts, because they were sticky after its hibernation. Suffice to say the tester seemed slightly miffed. :D

Thanks for the good luck messages but we failed anyway :)

Here is the rather long list:

Offside front (inner wing) Suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded
Nearside front (inner wing) Suspension componrnt mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded
Offside front (also being fouled by anti roll bar) Fluid suspension pipe leaking
Offside front Ball joint has excessive play
Front Fluid suspension accumulator leaking
Nearside front (handbrake cable on full lock) Tyre fouling a part of the vehicle

Advisories:

Nearside rear Tyre worn close to the legal limit
Offside B pillar starting to corrode at base

So next week I'll find out what that little lot is going to cost me, then we'll be on bread and dripping for the next six months

Don't be too disheartened Jane. I know it sounds like a rather long and gloomy list of failures, but all of it can be remedied fairly easily and don't forget it is a 21 yr old car, so it has done well so far. Be positive and see it has giving the car a new lease of life. :)

"bread and dripping" know you're talking! :D

I'm well aware that it could be a lot worse, just really short of money right now (well always really) and would have liked a slightly shorter list. Also I know that corrosion issues will only worsen in time and this is probably the start of many simliar problems.

As a veggie I probably won't be doing the bread and dripping diet, more bread and olive oil I guess. :?

Sorry to hear it's failed Jane - as already said, that's really not bad going for a 21-year old car and and corrosion can't be helped, you can keep up with it though. Fingers crossed that the £ damage isn't too bad.

The only one I'd be worried about in yoru position is the inner wing welding, but hopefully as it got through an MOT last year won't be that advanced. The others are all kind of a known quantity to fix. Handbrake cable is a problem which developed on mine, only on one side, after changing the cables for ones of identical length! That reminds me, it's something I must sort...

If your spare is good it might be worth putting that on for now to save a few quid - I don't see the point of a spare with plenty of tread - so long as it's legal and holds air that'll be fine.
