I've emailed the seller and he has sent me a picture, which I've linked below. It looks to be a black phase 1 in reasonable condition with 205 GTi wheels (I suspect this is an old picture, so it might look a lot worse than that now).
He's taken the engine out to replace the octopus, but now seems to have decided to sell the engine presumably for quick money. I've conversed with him via email but I can't afford what he wants for the car/engine, and I have suggested that I'll wait for him to try and sell the engine and then he can get back in touch with me if he wants to sell the shell, or perhaps the whole lot.
He wants £500 for the engine (I have told him he would be lucky) and £750 for the rolling shell (I have told him no chance).
IMHO he might get £300 for the engine - it's out of the car, can't be heard running, looks rough, and has been recently rebuilt. The shell I have suggested it's not worth much more than £200, since he'd need to find someone with the time, money, skills and appetite to re-engine it.
Your thoughts chaps? (Apart from the obvious fact that it shouldn't have been broken in the first place
